February 2 Groundhog Day Live Video: Local Rain Showers Then Quiet

February 2, 2024

Friday Morning Update

Today is Groundhog Day, and I have included a live video stream from Punxsutawney, PA, below. He should make his call around 7:20 AM. The weather there is cloudy, but I have seen that not play into his call… Let’s see. For what it’s worth, his accuracy is 39%, and does call for longer winter most of the time.

For us snow lovers, we can only hope. Today, we have rain showers. What will follow for the next 7+ days will be a very quiet weather pattern. Temps will be near or slightly above average. If we get back into a winter pattern, it will be in the middle of the month.

Morning Surface Weather

Some rain showers with the cold front. The rain will be focused on Delmarva this afternoon as clouds will linger the rest of the day.

Looking Ahead:

Monday Morning to Wednesday Morning

The southern storm track we discussed will remain south AND east! The suggestion I made to watch a closer pull to the coast is NOT going to happen. I see a non-event for us next week.

February 2 weather storm forecast

Jet Stream Feb 7 to Feb 14

The ridge of High Pressure will dominate the eastern US. This will keep us quiet… The orange is NOT heat. It is a stable and quiet weather pattern.

The blue represents the trough and storm pattern. After a persistent impact on the West Coast, it will attempt to return for us in the Eastern US by the middle of the month.

RESTATING MY MESSAGE ABOUT DYSLEXIA

I am aware there are some spelling and grammar typos and occasional other glitches. I take responsibility for my mistakes and even the computer glitches I may miss. I have made a few public statements over the years, but if you are new here, you may have missed it: I have dyslexia and found out during my second year at Cornell University. It didn’t stop me from getting my meteorology degree and being the first to get the AMS CBM in the Baltimore/Washington region. One of my professors told me that I had made it that far without knowing and to not let it be a crutch going forward. That was Mark Wysocki, and he was absolutely correct! I do miss my mistakes in my own proofreading. The autocorrect spell check on my computer sometimes does an injustice to make it worse. I also can make mistakes in forecasting. No one is perfect at predicting the future. All of the maps and information are accurate. The ‘wordy’ stuff can get sticky.  There has been no editor who can check my work when I need it and have it ready to send out in a newsworthy timeline. Barbara Werner is a member of the web team that helps me maintain this site. She has taken it upon herself to edit typos when she is available. That could be AFTER you read this. I accept this and perhaps proves what you read is really from me… It’s part of my charm. #FITF
