Wednesday Morning Update

Often in winter, we can have the pendulum swing from one extreme to the other. Last week, we had very cold air and two snow days. One of them was a record for the date. This week, we watch the weather pattern shift to the west, keeping us on the warm side. It will get very warm for one day on Friday!

In between, as the warm and moist air flows in over the snowpack and the chilly Chesapeake Bay, thick fog will form. Low level moisture will condense and can lead to visibility problems later today into Thursday.

Between two storm systems, a break in the rain and VERY WARM AIR will reach us on Friday. This is the main day of the Maryland Special Olympics Super Plunge.  I can still use your support to help reach my goal.

Sunday: The Ravens host the AFC Championship Game. Rain will return Saturday night. At this time, it looks like it may break on Sunday morning, and then leftover showers will be here, along with cooler air in the afternoon for the game.

The GFS Model is suggesting that colder air may catch up in time for snow on Monday. This is just a suggestion at this time.

Morning Surface Weather

The next event is centered on the Low Pressure forming in Texas. There will be heavier rain there, but a flow in the atmosphere will send impulses to carry that rain our way tonight into Friday morning.

With warmer and moist air flowing over our snowpack and cold water (Bay), there will be fog forming during the day and evening. This may be thick especially as rain becomes more steady by Thursday morning.

NEXT STORM

Storm Forecast: Wednesday Morning to Friday

The bulk of the rain appears to be on Thursday. By Friday, the storm will move out AND might leave us with a breezy and warmer day. I have tried to underplay this, but it looks more likely that we will push into the 60s.

January 24 weather rain Thursday

Storm Snapshot Friday

The next storm will last over a few days. The steady bulk of rain will fall on Thursday. We could be looking at over 1 inch.

Special Olympics Super Plunge

Almost 30% of my goal….

This Friday, I will be doing 24 plunges in 24 hours at Sandy Point Park.

We will have an afternoon in the 60s, but the Chesapeake Bay water temperature is down into the 30s. I hope you will consider supporting my efforts to reach this lofty goal!

Weekend Storm

Animation Saturday Evening to Monday Evening

This storm may drop most of the rain for us overnight, then showers will linger for Sunday afternoon. This GFS Model is trying to bring in colder air and maybe snow on Monday.

Sunday: AFC Championship Game

Baltimore will have rain breaking up to showers for the game time in the afternoon.  Temps will be cooling into the 40s…

Monday Morning

SUGGESTION NOT A PROMISE

The GFS Model is most aggressive with colder air and a change over to snow. This is worth watching, but I’d wait before getting too confident about this.

7 Day Outlook

Showers may arrive tonight, but the bulk of rain will be on Thursday.

Friday will surge in a very warm day…Maryland Special Olympic Superplunge will have temps inland in the 60s. It will be cooler by the water.

Sunday: Looks like a chilly day with rain tapering to showers for the Ravens Game.

There is a hint of snow trying to mix in on Monday.

RESTATING MY MESSAGE ABOUT DYSLEXIA

I am aware there are some spelling and grammar typos and occasional other glitches. I take responsibility for my mistakes and even the computer glitches I may miss. I have made a few public statements over the years, but if you are new here, you may have missed it: I have dyslexia and found out during my second year at Cornell University. It didn’t stop me from getting my meteorology degree and being the first to get the AMS CBM in the Baltimore/Washington region. One of my professors told me that I had made it that far without knowing and to not let it be a crutch going forward. That was Mark Wysocki, and he was absolutely correct! I do miss my mistakes in my own proofreading. The autocorrect spell check on my computer sometimes does an injustice to make it worse. I also can make mistakes in forecasting. No one is perfect at predicting the future. All of the maps and information are accurate. The ‘wordy’ stuff can get sticky.  There has been no editor who can check my work when I need it and have it ready to send out in a newsworthy timeline. Barbara Werner is a member of the web team that helps me maintain this site. She has taken it upon herself to edit typos when she is available. That could be AFTER you read this. I accept this and perhaps proves what you read is really from me… It’s part of my charm. #FITF
