This storm continues to serve up dramatic surprises. I continue to point out the miss on the north end that cut off snow in northern Maryland. But there has been an absolute Snowhound Pound zone in central to southern Maryland across to Delaware. Many areas already reporting between 6 and 9 inches, with more to fall. Most of the region from the beltway southward will verify the forecast, and then some.
Thundersnow
In case you missed it (I shared on social media): There was lightning strike in the heavy snow over Riviera Beach in Anne Arundel County. This showed up at 10:30 AM, and was reported by Baltimore’s BWI.
In the 11 AM Report: Heavy snow with winds gusting to 32 mph. That is White Out and near blizzard conditions. A full blizzard sustains 3 hours with 35 mph winds and 1”/Hr rates.
Snow reports are widely varied in central Maryland from nothing to 6 inches across 20 miles or less.
A wide stripe of 6 to 9 inches or more fits with the heavy snow expectation. More will continue to fall by The Bay and then move across The Eastern Shore through the afternoon.
My friend Colleen measured 8.5 inches on Kent Island before 11 AM and it was still falling at 1″/Hr or more.
My Mother In Law reported 6″ in Dover DE around 10 AM. They could double that!
