Afternoon Update: As Storm Departs With Power Outages Bitter Cold Air Arrives Tonight
Afternoon Update Monday January 3 2022
Our impressive storm is wrapping up and about to move off of the coast of North Carolina. A band of moderate to heavy snow continues on Delmarva, and this will slowly move to the beaches and off the coast by this evening.
This afternoon strong winds and cold air are already evident. Some places on the water are still gusting over 50 mph.
Power Outages as of 3 PM
- Virginia = 448,597
- Maryland = 79,470
- Washington. DC 3,820
- Delaware – 2,949
- New Jersey = 2,495
- West Virginia = 2,445
- Pennsylvania = 338
Temps are widespread in the 20s and wind chills are in the teens. With fresh deep snowpack, and some clearing expected later, it sets up the potential for a bitterly cold night.
The main story is that any place with snow and treatment, should consider further treatment for icing with what is possible by morning.

Forecast Temperatures
If the sky clears, places with deep snowpack could drop into the singe digits. That will make treating ice very difficult, even with magnesium chloride.
