Wednesday Morning Report

This morning has me a little extra cautious simply for the timing and very light intensity of a wintry mix.  The radar has shown it more than short range models. The air is dry, and some of this is breaking up as it moves east.  But the arrival of this mix of light sleet or freezing rain could still cause some isolated issues on the west side of Baltimore.

I am careful with my wording, because it will be light and spotty, but worth a mention.

Check out the comparison at 5 AM

Doppler Radar – Showed This…

Short Range Forecast – Showed This…

The forecast through noon does show this band breaking up quickly in the dry air over metro areas, but I still think we may see more showers.  Note that after 8 AM, the higher sun angle should help thaw us out… and YES, we will warm today.

Local Radar/Temperatures  At 6:10 AM

I’ve highlighted the movement on radar of the bands… but the entire system is lifting to the north.

Any light precipitation arriving before 8 AM will catch up to temps below freezing. That may lead to some icy spots. Reminder that regardless of the air temperatures, the ground has had a few days to chill!  It will be the higher sun angle that helps this during the morning.

Just for comparison: By 9 AM the local sun angle will be higher than at noon on December 21.

*Disclaimer due to frequent questions:

I am aware there are some spelling and grammar typos. I have made a few public statements over the years, but if you are new here you may have missed it:

I have dyslexia, and found out at my second year at Cornell.  I didn’t stop me from getting my meteorology degree, and being first to get the AMS CBM in the Baltimore/Washington region.

I do miss my mistakes in my own proofreading. The autocorrect spell check on my computer sometimes does an injustice to make it worse.

All of the maps and information are accurate. The ‘wordy’ stuff can get sticky.

There is no editor that can check my work when I need it and have it ready to send out in a newsworthy timeline.

I accept this and perhaps proves what you read is really from me…

It’s part of my charm.
