Winter Storm Warning EXPANDED Again: Storm Overachieving
March 12 2022
Saturday Morning Update
Perhaps you have heard me or other meteorologists say this: The Trend Is Your Friend. In this case, the trend for this storm has been more aggressive with timing and cold air. As result, the impact has trended higher or to overachieve.
When this storm is over, I need to share with you my personal experience of this storm and a prediction I made to my wife to months ago. She actually just reminded me of it. All I can share now is I have a prior Obligation but am squeezing as much time away I can to work for you.
Baltimore’s BWI Officially reported the snow change over at 8:25 AM. The temp then was 36ºF. It will take about an hour or two for many metro areas to first change over then reach freezing and have road stickage.
The earlier arrival of the cold air is what will allow more snow to lay, stay, and impact more areas. As a result:
The Winter Storm Warning has been EXPANDED again to now include northern Baltimore and Harford Counties.
The Winter Weather Advisory was expanded to include Annapolis and La Plata in Southern Maryland.
Winter Storm Alerts Update From National Weather Service
I still would like to emphasize that areas NOT in the advisory will also experience a change to snow. Roads may not get the same impact initially, but the dramatic drop in temp will lead to icing by later in the day and this evening.
Wind Advisory
We have this to add in as well… GUSTS TO 55 MPH
NWS in State College did not add in southern PA counties, but I would still plan of a very wind event with the snow.
Set Up at 9 AM
Temperatures at 9 AM
Reminder: It will take about an hour or two for many metro areas to first change over then reach freezing and have road stickage.
NEW Animations
I wanted to post the updated HRRR Model radar and temperature simulations.

*Disclaimer due to frequent questions:
I am aware there are some spelling and grammar typos. I have made a few public statements over the years, but if you are new here you may have missed it:
I have dyslexia, and found out at my second year at Cornell. I didn’t stop me from getting my meteorology degree, and being first to get the AMS CBM in the Baltimore/Washington region.
I do miss my mistakes in my own proofreading. The autocorrect spell check on my computer sometimes does an injustice to make it worse.
All of the maps and information are accurate. The ‘wordy’ stuff can get sticky.
There is no editor that can check my work when I need it and have it ready to send out in a newsworthy timeline.
I accept this and perhaps proves what you read is really from me…
It’s part of my charm.
