Monday Afternoon Update
Payback for our record high temperature is fuel for storm to possibly turn severe. We have already had winds gusting between 45 and 50 mph. It will not take much for low based thunderstorms to bring down winds gusts to 60 mph. That is the criteria for a severe storm, and prompted the Watch this evening.
Severe Thunderstorm Watch
This means a storm may produce conditions such as damaging winds up to 60 mph. If a storm does reach that level, then a WARNING will be issued with specific counties and towns listed.
Late Afternoon Set Up
We have already had showers with gusty winds. The cold front will pass through tonight… It is the line of storms in western Pennsylvania that we will track in through this evening. There is also a cluster along the mountains of southwestern Virginia. I believe this will keep more of Maryland in play for storms tonight than the Watch area.

*Disclaimer due to frequent questions:
I am aware there are some spelling and grammar typos. I have made a few public statements over the years, but if you are new here you may have missed it:
I have dyslexia, and found out at my second year at Cornell. I didn’t stop me from getting my meteorology degree, and being first to get the AMS CBM in the Baltimore/Washington region.
I do miss my mistakes in my own proofreading. The autocorrect spell check on my computer sometimes does an injustice to make it worse.
All of the maps and information are accurate. The ‘wordy’ stuff can get sticky.
There is no editor that can check my work when I need it and have it ready to send out in a newsworthy timeline.
I accept this and perhaps proves what you read is really from me…
It’s part of my charm.
