December 12 Weather Tuesday Morning Chilly Start And Snow Reports
December 12, 2023
Tuesday Morning Update
After 2 inches of rain followed by a range from a dusting to over 2 inches of snow locally… our early winter weather has led us to a very chilly morning.
The good news is that we have a quiet stretch of weather with sunny days to last the rest of the week.
There will be another coastal storm, but at this point, it looks like the weekend will be dry then turning wet Sunday evening and night.
Snow Report From Monday
Here are the local maps to show the distribution of snow across Maryland, VA, and WV. Southern PA is not on the map, but got 1 to 2 inches.

Morning Temperatures
The clear sky and light wind have allowed temperatures to drop into the 20s for most of our region. The snow has melted; however, some puddles and slick spots could have iced over.
Morning Surface Weather
High Pressure has light winds and a quiet weather pattern for the next few days.
Wind Forecast: 7 AM to 7 PM
If you look closely, you can see the anticyclonic circulation (clockwise) wind from being centered in Southeast VA and shifting off the coast. This will allow the southerly wind, albeit light, to develop today.

Sunday Evening
The shift in timing does support a change to a dry Sunday. Then rain arrives later in the day and overnight.
Monday Afternoon
A coastal storm may once again be a few waves of Low Pressure. It will not have cold air to bring snow, but it does support a pattern for Nor’easters going forward into the winter season.
7 Day Forecast
A string of sunny days through the work week. The next storm will arrive later on Sunday, so the day will not be a washout. Then we watch another coastal storm overnight into Monday.

RESTATING MY MESSAGE ABOUT DYSLEXIA
I am aware there are some spelling and grammar typos and occasional other glitches. I take responsibility for my mistakes and even the computer glitches I may miss. I have made a few public statements over the years, but if you are new here, you may have missed it: I have dyslexia and found out during my second year at Cornell University. It didn’t stop me from getting my meteorology degree and being the first to get the AMS CBM in the Baltimore/Washington region. One of my professors told me that I had made it that far without knowing and to not let it be a crutch going forward. That was Mark Wysocki, and he was absolutely correct! I do miss my mistakes in my own proofreading. The autocorrect spell check on my computer sometimes does an injustice to make it worse. I also can make mistakes in forecasting. No one is perfect at predicting the future. All of the maps and information are accurate. The ‘wordy’ stuff can get sticky. There has been no editor who can check my work when I need it and have it ready to send out in a newsworthy timeline. Barbara Werner is a member of the web team that helps me maintain this site. She has taken it upon herself to edit typos when she is available. That could be AFTER you read this. I accept this and perhaps proves what you read is really from me… It’s part of my charm.
