December 11 First Snow Of The Season Starts The Day
December 11, 2023
Monday Morning Update
This has been an about-face! Yesterday brought a temperature of 61ºF with 1.52” of rain. Some areas did get over 2 inches of rain as the main storm arrived just after the Ravens game and lasted all night.
While we expected snow, the heavy burst was enough to overtake the warm ground and lead to stickage. There have been reports this morning of between a coating and 2 inches from Baltimore and west (north and south).
School Delays
Temperatures remain near or just above freezing, but stickage on roads has forced the hand of some counties to delay school opening 2 hours.
Maryland: Frederick, Howard, Carroll, Harford, and Cecil Counties.
ALSO: The Hereford Zone in Northern Baltimore County, plus a few private schools.
Pennsylvania: Many delays from individual districts across Adams, York, and Lancaster Counties.

This validates the 2-hour school delay.
This was the report I shared after 4 AM on Facebook. You may be able to access the comments from here to see additional photos and reports.
Morning Temperatures
The marginal air temperatures and heavy burst of snow have allowed for road stickage. This has been tough to track, but most areas remain above freezing and will stay there all morning. So, the snow will slowly melt.
Morning Surface Weather
The last gasp of this storm will be moving away early, allowing a chilly wind to fill in the rest of the day.
Wind Forecast: 7 AM to 7 PM
Snapshot at 3 PM
Gusts will reach 25 mph.

RESTATING MY MESSAGE ABOUT DYSLEXIA
I am aware there are some spelling and grammar typos and occasional other glitches. I take responsibility for my mistakes and even the computer glitches I may miss. I have made a few public statements over the years, but if you are new here, you may have missed it: I have dyslexia and found out during my second year at Cornell University. It didn’t stop me from getting my meteorology degree and being the first to get the AMS CBM in the Baltimore/Washington region. One of my professors told me that I had made it that far without knowing and to not let it be a crutch going forward. That was Mark Wysocki, and he was absolutely correct! I do miss my mistakes in my own proofreading. The autocorrect spell check on my computer sometimes does an injustice to make it worse. I also can make mistakes in forecasting. No one is perfect at predicting the future. All of the maps and information are accurate. The ‘wordy’ stuff can get sticky. There has been no editor who can check my work when I need it and have it ready to send out in a newsworthy timeline. Barbara Werner is a member of the web team that helps me maintain this site. She has taken it upon herself to edit typos when she is available. That could be AFTER you read this. I accept this and perhaps proves what you read is really from me… It’s part of my charm.
