October 10 Weather Variable Clouds Signals Warming Then Tracking Weekend Rain
October 10, 2023
Monday Morning Update
The weather map still shows signals of winter with a large upper-level Low Pressure in Canada dominating the cool airflow across the Eastern US. This will push one more disturbance today, already bringing in clouds this morning. This part of the pattern will relax to allow a few days back into the 70s.
We are in the time of the year where we lose more than 2 minutes of sunlight each day AND climatology shows we drop one degree cooler every three to four days.
The next push of colder air will come with a band of rain this weekend. The computer modeling has some limitations and this time window is when it can miss some key parts of the next rain event.
I can not make any promises, but if you have an outdoor event on Saturday just plan for rain, either showers or steady rain.
Morning Temperatures
Chilly but not as cold as yesterday morning.
Morning Surface Weather
One more disturbance will swing through and carry a band of clouds. This may be mostly a morning event, then more sun should try and return this afternoon.
Satellite Loop
A few hours of clouds are expected as this batch will be reaching metro areas this morning. With the cluster of clouds, there may be a brief sprinkle or rain shower.
Temperatures
Slightly warmer with some spots nearing 70ºF.

Looking Ahead: Next Weekend
Friday Afternoon to Sunday Evening
The next rain event is slated for Saturday and Sunday. We are in the time frame where computer model guidance seems to lose some of the tracking and this may seem less impressive. I am not sold on it yet.
I would plan for rain to develop on Saturday with showers on Sunday. I can lock on specifics and realize the importance. Saturday events include
- Baltimore Running Festival 11,000 runners
- River Valley Run: The final event for this running festival
- Seagull Century: 100-mile cycling event
Snapshots
Saturday Morning
Showers will be developing. This is when the three events I listed above will be underway.
Saturday Afternoon
Rain will be expanding. Pockets of moderate to heavy rain are possible.
Sunday
The unsettled cool air will keep showers lingering. At this time they may be more likely across PA through Delmarva.

RESTATING MY MESSAGE ABOUT DYSLEXIA
I am aware there are some spelling and grammar typos and occasional other glitches. I take responsibility for my mistakes and even the computer glitches I may miss. I have made a few public statements over the years, but if you are new here, you may have missed it: I have dyslexia and found out during my second year at Cornell University. It didn’t stop me from getting my meteorology degree and being the first to get the AMS CBM in the Baltimore/Washington region. One of my professors told me that I had made it that far without knowing and to not let it be a crutch going forward. That was Mark Wysocki, and he was absolutely correct! I do miss my mistakes in my own proofreading. The autocorrect spell check on my computer sometimes does an injustice to make it worse. I also can make mistakes in forecasting. No one is perfect at predicting the future. All of the maps and information are accurate. The ‘wordy’ stuff can get sticky. There has been no editor who can check my work when I need it and have it ready to send out in a newsworthy timeline. Barbara Werner is a member of the web team that helps me maintain this site. She has taken it upon herself to edit typos when she is available. That could be AFTER you read this. I accept this and perhaps proves what you read is really from me… It’s part of my charm.
