October 3 Patchy Fog And Summer Heat Then Fall Chill This Weekend
October 3, 2023
Tuesday Morning Update
We are in a pattern with a few more repeats of these summer-like days. However, there has been a slight increase in humidity. This has helped more morning fog form, especially in spots around the Northeastern Chesapeake Bay and inland valleys. It will also feel a little more sticky and summer-like this afternoon.
We are still on for the arrival of a strong cold front to end the week. Showers on Friday and rain on Saturday will bring in a fall chill this weekend. The Orioles’ first home game of the playoffs is Saturday, so I will be paying close attention to the rain timing. It’s too early to lock in on it.
Morning Surface Weather
High Pressure is in control. This means light winds and as it shifts East will help to bring in more humidity on the back side.
Visibility
This gives an idea of where the fog has been developing and is more likely to impact traffic.
Wake Up Temperatures
This does have a summer feel to the air with a little more humidity.
Temperature Forecast
Much like yesterday, many areas will reach into the lower 80s.

Wednesday
If your area is prone to morning fog (by the bay, a reservoir, or valley) you may see some to start the day. Then the sun will dominate and warm up the afternoon quickly.

Afternoon Temperatures
Again in the lower 80s.

Snapshots
Tuesday
Still feels like summer.
Sunday
The core of the chilly air will settle in with brisk winds.
Animation: Tuesday to Next Monday
After we kick this trough off the coast, a ridge with High Pressure will build in a warmer air mass all week. The next modification will be noticeable next weekend. That is the pattern change that will truly make it feel like Autumn.
Rain Forecast Friday to Sunday
The cold front will help ignite scattered showers on Friday, but more rain is likely on Saturday. I know it is the Orioles’ first home playoff game and I will NOT lock on any promises yet. Just plan for chilly temps and a chance to get wet.
Sunday Morning – Inland Frost
If the clouds clear and winds settle, temps may have a chance to drop into the 30s for ‘some’ inland suburbs.
Most people away from the water will definitely experience a fall-like feel with temperatures in the 40s.
The mountains will drop into the 30s and could have their first frost.
7 Day Forecast
Still feeling like summer for a few days, and then we look for increasing clouds on Thursday.
Friday brings in some showers, with a better chance of rain on Saturday. This will come with a chilly wind and the colder air settles in Sunday and Monday.

RESTATING MY MESSAGE ABOUT DYSLEXIA
I am aware there are some spelling and grammar typos and occasional other glitches. I take responsibility for my mistakes and even the computer glitches I may miss. I have made a few public statements over the years, but if you are new here, you may have missed it: I have dyslexia and found out during my second year at Cornell University. It didn’t stop me from getting my meteorology degree and being the first to get the AMS CBM in the Baltimore/Washington region. One of my professors told me that I had made it that far without knowing and to not let it be a crutch going forward. That was Mark Wysocki, and he was absolutely correct! I do miss my mistakes in my own proofreading. The autocorrect spell check on my computer sometimes does an injustice to make it worse. I also can make mistakes in forecasting. No one is perfect at predicting the future. All of the maps and information are accurate. The ‘wordy’ stuff can get sticky. There has been no editor who can check my work when I need it and have it ready to send out in a newsworthy timeline. Barbara Werner is a member of the web team that helps me maintain this site. She has taken it upon herself to edit typos when she is available. That could be AFTER you read this. I accept this and perhaps proves what you read is really from me… It’s part of my charm.
