January 12 Thunder Tonight And Snow Returns To Mountains
January 12, 2023
Thursday Morning Report
We have a warm storm on the way. The active weather pattern continues, with the storm track to our west. That will pump in southerly winds for us, which will not only bring temps to the 50s later today and tonight, but also the chance for thunderstorms.
The back side will be colder, producing snow for the ski areas before the weekend. So if you are heading to Wisp, Seven Springs, or Snowshoe they all will be looking good.
The return of winter is just over the horizon, and the signals are there for the rest of us before the end of the month.
Headlines
- Morning: Damp
- Afternoon: Rain Showers
- Evening/Night: Some Thunder
- Mountains: A Few Inches Of Snow BEFORE THE WEEKEND
Morning Temperatures
Warmer, so if you had showers or still run into drizzle, the ground is just wet.
Surface Weather
Low Pressure entering The Ohio Valley is our weather event. A warm front moving through this morning is the reason we have had drizzle and light showers. The warming winds will continue all day and tonight.
Radar Simulation
HRRR Model 2 PM to 10 PM
The first round of rain will reach the mountains and pass into southern PA, and showers will develop ahead of it. The bulk of rain and thunderstorms will be tonight.
Snapshots
3 PM
A line of heavy rain may have some thunder. This will be mainly in the mountains, with scattered showers across the rest of the region.
3 PM Temperatures
Thermometers will continue to warm through tonight.
8 PM
The models have had some disagreement about this, but a line of rain with some thunder may first arrive this evening. I would allow for a window between 6 PM and 10 PM.
11 PM Temperatures
The mid to upper 50s will stream up along the Chesapeake and Coast, while colder air begins to show up in the mountains.
