October 9 Weather Chilly Start And Rain Showers By Evening
October 9, 2023
Monday Morning Update
After closing the weekend with chilly 50s and 60s, the clear sky and light wind have allowed a continued drop in temperatures. There are some local suburbs in central Maryland that may have patchy frost.
There will be a quick chance of rain with the approach of the next weather system. Rain showers this morning even have snow mixed in over West Virginia above 3,500 Ft. This is around Snowshoe and Blue Knob.
We can expect those showers to spread east today, so clouds will be on the increase and showers will reach metro areas by this evening.
Morning Temperatures
The clear sky and light wind have allowed a deep drop of temps through the 40s and even some 30s. We expected that in the mountains, but pockets of 30s are showing up in Howard and Montgomery Counties just west of Baltimore.
Even more surprising are the 30s in Salisbury and southern Delaware (well inland from the beaches).
Morning Surface Weather
Our clear and calm morning will transition to increasing clouds. The quick moving weather system is located in the Ohio Valley. This will reach our region by tonight, bringing rain showers with it.
Cloud Forecast 8 AM to 8 PM
After a mostly sunny morning, clouds will be on the increase from the West during the afternoon. We should see a dimming sun and an overcast sky before evening.
Wind Forecast
Winds from the West 10 to 20 mph.
Temperatures
The warmer areas will only be the lower 60s from metro Baltimore and across the Bay through Delmarva.
Inland will stay in the 50s where clouds arrive sooner.
Radar Simulation Noon to Midnight
Evening Snapshot
Rain is expected to arrive late afternoon and evening.
The band of rain showers will more likely reach the western and northern suburbs first.
It may affect the late-day commute and after-school sports.

Looking Ahead: Next Weekend
Friday to Monday
Reminder to my cycling friends: I will be riding in the Seagull Century with some friends. This 100-mile bike ride between Salisbury and Assateague Island on Saturday will be chilly and wet. It is looking like a soggy weekend.

RESTATING MY MESSAGE ABOUT DYSLEXIA
I am aware there are some spelling and grammar typos and occasional other glitches. I take responsibility for my mistakes and even the computer glitches I may miss. I have made a few public statements over the years, but if you are new here, you may have missed it: I have dyslexia and found out during my second year at Cornell University. It didn’t stop me from getting my meteorology degree and being the first to get the AMS CBM in the Baltimore/Washington region. One of my professors told me that I had made it that far without knowing and to not let it be a crutch going forward. That was Mark Wysocki, and he was absolutely correct! I do miss my mistakes in my own proofreading. The autocorrect spell check on my computer sometimes does an injustice to make it worse. I also can make mistakes in forecasting. No one is perfect at predicting the future. All of the maps and information are accurate. The ‘wordy’ stuff can get sticky. There has been no editor who can check my work when I need it and have it ready to send out in a newsworthy timeline. Barbara Werner is a member of the web team that helps me maintain this site. She has taken it upon herself to edit typos when she is available. That could be AFTER you read this. I accept this and perhaps proves what you read is really from me… It’s part of my charm.
