Sunday Morning Update

We did it! Yesterday’s beautiful weather was the first time in 2 weeks that Baltimore reached the  70s. If your lawn is out of control and you let the sun dry it out, today you will have time to get it clipped… However, there will be showers and thunderstorms arriving late afternoon and evening.

My schedule has me up early in the morning and I often plan my timing to post by the morning light. Today was noticeably bright earlier with sunrise at 6 AM. The sunset will be at 8:07 PM, meaning with over 14 hours of daylight, we are gaining more than 2 extra minutes of daylight each day, so it is inevitable that we continue to warm up.  The climate records show we typically climb one extra degree on the afternoon highs every 4 to 5 days.

Morning Surface Weather

This looks like an MCC in the Ohio Valley. This is a mesoscale convective complex, often taking on its own spin and surviving overnight as it traverses around the north side of High Pressure.

This is the system we plan to arrive late afternoon and evening today. It has already spread high thin clouds across the sky and will likely lead to a mostly cloudy day.

The timing of the showers could end up earlier than the models are showing, but I would still expect later afternoon in metro areas.

Evening Snapshot at 6 PM

This is a rough gauge of the timing. The line and cluster of rain with embedded thunderstorms will be moving out of the mountains into the western suburbs by dinner. This product has a tendency to be a little slow.

Thoughts: Consider showers and storms east of the mountains between 5 PM and 8 PM.

RESTATING MY MESSAGE ABOUT DYSLEXIA

I am aware there are some spelling and grammar typos, and occasional other glitches. I take responsibility for my mistakes, and even the computer glitches I may miss. I have made a few public statements over the years, but if you are new here you may have missed it: I have dyslexia, and found out during my second year at Cornell University. It didn’t stop me from getting my meteorology degree, and being first to get the AMS CBM in the Baltimore/Washington region. One of my professors told me that I had made it that far without knowing, and to not let it be a crutch going forward. That was Mark Wysocki and he was absolutely correct! I do miss my mistakes in my own proofreading. The autocorrect spell check on my computer sometimes does an injustice to make it worse. I also can make mistakes in forecasting. No one is perfect predicting the future. All of the maps and information are accurate. The ‘wordy’ stuff can get sticky.  There has been no editor that can check my work when I needed it and have it ready to send out in a newsworthy timeline. Barbara Werner is a member of the web team that helps me maintain this site. She has taken it upon herself to edit typos, when she is able. That could be AFTER you read this. I accept this and perhaps proves what you read is really from me… It’s part of my charm.
