August 9 Heat Advisory And More Storms With Relief In Sight
August 9 2022
Tuesday Morning Update
After taking a few days off and returning to forecasting, I was struck with this thought: It is August and it is Hot! What’s new? However, we do have above average heat with a Heat Advisory in place for parts of the region. We also can expect late day thunderstorms which could last into the night.
The ‘new’ thing is the pattern change and refreshing air mass that should arrive later this week and into the weekend. So even with a few bumps along the way, we will get there…
Heat Advisory
This includes metro areas around the Chesapeake Bay, Upper Eastern Shore and Southeast Pennsylvania.
Morning Surface Weather
The slow moving front will kick off more severe weather. We will get some storms later today, but the big event will likely be tomorrow when this crosses our region.
Afternoon Temperatures
NAM 3 Km Model Simulation 4 PM to Midnight
NOTICE: Maryland Trek 9 was a HUGE Success! The team, support crew, and YOU!
Thank you! We have raised OVER $107,000 (so far). We still have more to add in, and will continue to accept donations into our final total until Sunday.
If the code works, you may notice a video player at the top of this page. I put all of our individual daily recap reels in there, just in case you wanted to see them. One final recap will be ready shortly.

Storms Late Evening And Overnight
I did take a few days off, but I still believe the models are not performing optimally. So I must default to the expectation that these storms are likely to develop a little earlier and expand more than suggested.
Expect to have a stormy evening and night across the region… Then we start to improve Thursday into the weekend.

*Disclaimer due to frequent questions:
I am aware there are some spelling and grammar typos. I have made a few public statements over the years, but if you are new here you may have missed it:
I have dyslexia, and found out at my second year at Cornell. It didn’t stop me from getting my meteorology degree, and being first to get the AMS CBM in the Baltimore/Washington region.
I do miss mistakes in my own proofreading. The autocorrect spell check on my computer sometimes does an injustice to make it worse.
All of the maps and information are accurate. The ‘wordy’ stuff can get sticky.
There is no editor that can check my work when I need it and have it ready to send out in a newsworthy timeline.
I accept this and perhaps proves what you read is really from me…
It’s part of my charm.
