August 20 More Sun Today And Rain Returns Sunday Plus Tropics May Get A New Named Storm
August 20 2022
Saturday Update
A disturbance has brought morning clouds and showers to the beaches. They may hold on to clouds longer, while inland areas get plenty of sun and a warm Saturday.
The next system will bring us showers and thunderstorms Sunday afternoon into Monday.
The other weather headline is in the tropics. It’s been a very quiet season after a quick start. Today there may be a newly named storm in the Gulf of Mexico, but it is not going to be around for long.
Morning Surface Weather
A weak Low Pressure in North Carolina has brought rain across the Outer Banks to Virginia Beach. Clouds are hugging the beaches from Ocean City to Rehoboth. These clouds may linger longer along the coast, especially this morning.

Tropics:
This active area is in the southwestern Gulf of Mexico. It is expected to increase winds over 40 mph today, which would get it the 4th name of the season.
It has been over 6 weeks since the last named storm, which is very quiet and contrary to the busy forecast.

Looking Ahead
Animation: Sunday Morning To Tuesday Afternoon
The models have not been performing well. I keep saying this and it keeps verifying. So looking at this product is only an idea. I would plan for unsettled weather Sunday and Monday, then improving for most on Tuesday. There may be another day to clear the energy from the coastal communities/beaches.

*Disclaimer due to frequent questions:
I am aware there are some spelling and grammar typos. I have made a few public statements over the years, but if you are new here you may have missed it:
I have dyslexia, and found out at my second year at Cornell. It didn’t stop me from getting my meteorology degree, and being first to get the AMS CBM in the Baltimore/Washington region.
I do miss mistakes in my own proofreading. The autocorrect spell check on my computer sometimes does an injustice to make it worse.
All of the maps and information are accurate. The ‘wordy’ stuff can get sticky.
There is no editor that can check my work when I need it and have it ready to send out in a newsworthy timeline.
I accept this and perhaps proves what you read is really from me…
It’s part of my charm.
