Storm Report June 8 In Maryland: Video and Photos

storm recap
Severe Weather
video

The storms that erupted Wednesday evening were focused across central Maryland. There was a slow moving cluster that redeveloped on itself for a few hours, including a mesoscale Low that produce low level circulation.

A Tornado Warning was issued at one point including densely populated Columbia and Ellicott City.

Flash Flooding resulted from over 2 inches of rain, with some areas getting over 3 inches in about an hour or so.  That resulted in cancellation and evacuation of the Halsey Concert at Merriweather in Columbia and the evacuation sirens blasting across Old Historic Ellicott City.

Numerous trees were down, and a path of damage stretched across a narrow but highly populated area including Baltimore City proper.

Cancelled Concert:

Report from Jenni Bradlee:

We were at the Halsey concert that didn’t happen at Merriweather when this came through. Seats flooded, rain came in under the pavilion (weird drainage patterns) and they held us for nearly 3 hours… said the show would go on then ended up canceling about 45 minutes after that announcement.

Ellicott City Flooding

Video from QuakerNana.  Thankfully this stopped rising just before overflowing to a destructive level. It was a close call.

*Disclaimer due to frequent questions:

I am aware there are some spelling and grammar typos. I have made a few public statements over the years, but if you are new here you may have missed it:

I have dyslexia, and found out at my second year at Cornell.  I didn’t stop me from getting my meteorology degree, and being first to get the AMS CBM in the Baltimore/Washington region.

I do miss my mistakes in my own proofreading. The autocorrect spell check on my computer sometimes does an injustice to make it worse.

All of the maps and information are accurate. The ‘wordy’ stuff can get sticky.

There is no editor that can check my work when I need it and have it ready to send out in a newsworthy timeline.

I accept this and perhaps proves what you read is really from me…

It’s part of my charm.
