October 8 Sunday Weather Orioles Playoff Game 2 And Week Ahead
October 8, 2023
Sunday Morning Update
We are in the Fall pattern now and it will be felt undeniably this morning. The wind flow along with unstable air aloft has led to clouds and showers over the mountains. Some of them will expand east during the day as winds mix in with higher gusts.
The Orioles second playoff game at home may feel more like a football game, but such is October baseball.
Rain outlook this week brings in some showers on Monday, then another more organized event next weekend. I will be with the large contingent cycling the Seagull Century between Salisbury and Assateague Island. It looks wet for now and I will be watching closely for any optimistic changes.
Morning Temperatures
Most areas away from the water and city centers have dropped into the 40s. Colder 30s have reached the high mountains and parts of interior Virginia.
Morning Surface Weather
Clouds are thickening up and some areas have already had drizzle. A few spotty rain showers today, but more pronounced if you are going to be in the western mountains.
Off the coast, Tropical Storm Philippe has passed over Bermuda and taken a left turn towards Maine.
Wind Forecast 8 AM to 8 PM
A gusty wind between 10 to 20 mph will continue throughout much of the day.
Cloud Forecast 8 AM to 8 PM
The chilly winds and wind flow will keep clouds all day in the mountains, and build them east during the afternoon.
Afternoon Snapshot
The Orioles’ second game hosting the Texas Rangers is scheduled to begin at 4:07 PM. Here is a look at what may be experienced across the entire region.
The sky will be partly cloudy over the stadium but could appear mostly cloudy to overcast at times across the region. These clouds will break up as the sun gets lower.
Wind Forecast
Winds will be blowing FROM THE WEST at 10 to 20 mph. This may help some fly balls carry closer to or over the outfield wall.
There will be wind mixing around the stadium and some vortices bumping up against the warehouse, so if you are there some flags could appear to blow in different directions.
Temperatures
After maxing out in the lower 60s, temps will drop into the 50s by the end of the game. The setting sun will make it feel like a quick drop and it will feel chilly in a hurry.

RESTATING MY MESSAGE ABOUT DYSLEXIA
I am aware there are some spelling and grammar typos and occasional other glitches. I take responsibility for my mistakes and even the computer glitches I may miss. I have made a few public statements over the years, but if you are new here, you may have missed it: I have dyslexia and found out during my second year at Cornell University. It didn’t stop me from getting my meteorology degree and being the first to get the AMS CBM in the Baltimore/Washington region. One of my professors told me that I had made it that far without knowing and to not let it be a crutch going forward. That was Mark Wysocki, and he was absolutely correct! I do miss my mistakes in my own proofreading. The autocorrect spell check on my computer sometimes does an injustice to make it worse. I also can make mistakes in forecasting. No one is perfect at predicting the future. All of the maps and information are accurate. The ‘wordy’ stuff can get sticky. There has been no editor who can check my work when I need it and have it ready to send out in a newsworthy timeline. Barbara Werner is a member of the web team that helps me maintain this site. She has taken it upon herself to edit typos when she is available. That could be AFTER you read this. I accept this and perhaps proves what you read is really from me… It’s part of my charm.
