October 6 Tropical Storm Philippe Orioles Playoff Weather And Foliage Reports As Fall Returns
October 6, 2023
Friday Morning Update
The cold front is on the move and already bringing some dampness this morning. It will not be a washout, but the drizzle and spotty showers will continue today. Temps will remain warm, but this is the end. Colder air will arrive with strong winds and a period of rain on Saturday.
At this time it looks like mostly a morning event, but we are trying to time the end of the rain for the Orioles home playoff game hosting The Texas Rangers at 1 PM.
Colder winds will be more pronounced Saturday afternoon into Sunday.
Morning Surface Weather
Clouds are thickening up and some areas have already had drizzle. The rain showers will be spotty today, but more pronounced if you are going to be in the western mountains.
Off the coast, Tropical Storm Philippe will be passing over Bermuda and taking a left turn into Maine. This may slow up the cold front on Saturday, and is the reason timing the end of the rain has been a challenge.
What we do have high confidence in is the colder wind that will take over the rest of the weekend.
Radar Simulation: 8 AM to 8 PM
Afternoon Temperature Forecast
Much like yesterday, many areas will reach into the lower 80s.
Tropical Storm Philippe
This is a moderate NOT MAJOR storm, but it will be teaming up with the cold front and leading to more rain into New England. This storm may slow down the cold front and also bring more flooding to already water logged New England.

This forecast shows showers may linger for the start of the game but will come to an end. If you have plans to tailgate or arrive early, you may want to dress for rain.
Wind Forecast
Winds will be 15 to 25 mph, GUSTING up to 25 mph from the Northwest.
This will limit homers to Left Field, holding balls up in the air longer. But it may help lefties and Right Field balls.

7 Day Forecast
The end of the heat will be gradual today and abrupt tomorrow. The most noticeable feature will be the chilly wind this weekend. It will be noticeable on Saturday afternoon and into Sunday as the colder air works in.
Next week starts chilly then there will be a little bump of warming mid week. Each follow up warming will be lower and shorter lived as we go forward.

RESTATING MY MESSAGE ABOUT DYSLEXIA
I am aware there are some spelling and grammar typos and occasional other glitches. I take responsibility for my mistakes and even the computer glitches I may miss. I have made a few public statements over the years, but if you are new here, you may have missed it: I have dyslexia and found out during my second year at Cornell University. It didn’t stop me from getting my meteorology degree and being the first to get the AMS CBM in the Baltimore/Washington region. One of my professors told me that I had made it that far without knowing and to not let it be a crutch going forward. That was Mark Wysocki, and he was absolutely correct! I do miss my mistakes in my own proofreading. The autocorrect spell check on my computer sometimes does an injustice to make it worse. I also can make mistakes in forecasting. No one is perfect at predicting the future. All of the maps and information are accurate. The ‘wordy’ stuff can get sticky. There has been no editor who can check my work when I need it and have it ready to send out in a newsworthy timeline. Barbara Werner is a member of the web team that helps me maintain this site. She has taken it upon herself to edit typos when she is available. That could be AFTER you read this. I accept this and perhaps proves what you read is really from me… It’s part of my charm.
