Baltimore Weather For Orioles Playoffs Plus Billy Joel And Stevie Nicks Concert
Saturday, October 7 will be a big day kicking off a big weekend for Baltimore. I know there are a lot of activities going on, but the major players I am going to focus on for this report are the Baltimore Orioles first home playoff game at Camden Yards in the afternoon AND the concert next door at M&T Bank Stadium on Saturday night.
I would love to know how many people got tickets to both events. They are literally next door and share a parking lot.
The Baltimore Orioles will be hosting the Texas Rangers for their first home playoff game since 2014. There is a lot of excitement for the region and anxiety for the weather.
A cold front that will bring an end to our late surge of summer heat this week will bring a period of rain. The good news is that it will definitely move out during the afternoon. The big question will be if the rain ends before the first pitch or if it delays the game up to one hour. There is a spread of about 2 hours among the three models I am showing below. In short, plan for a wet commute to the game and tailgating. The start has about a 50% chance of being wet or the rain ending and it being dry.
What will follow will be colder winds from the Northwest that may gust to 25 mph. So we can guarantee gusty colder winds that will last the bulk of the game and into the concert at night.
Those will hold up fly balls to left field, so right-handed batters may limit their home run chances. The left-handed batters may get more of a chance to the short porch or get more pushed into foul territory.
Here we will take a look at the rain, wind, and temperatures.
Set Up Friday Night
This cold front has a narrow band of steady rain. That is what we expect to move through Saturday morning, until mid-day. It may break up overnight, and then regenerate during the day.
The real complex part has been Philippe. This storm has been downgraded to post-tropical. Winds are still 50 mph, but it has lost its tropical characteristics. It is this storm that could help slow up the approaching cold front, even being that far off the coast. It will move up to northern New England with heavy rain with not much other effect for us.

Rain Forecast
GFS Model Friday Night to Sunday Afternoon
Note that this product shows increments of every 3 hours.
Snapshot 2 PM Saturday
This may be deceiving. It is a 3-hour summary between 11 AM and 2 PM. It is a lower resolution and does not show the precise end of the rain.
Higher Resolution
1 PM Game Time
Here is a look at 3-different models with similar but slightly different approaches.
HRRR Model
This is the SLOWEST solution, keeping the rain over Baltimore for the 1 to 2 pm hour. If this plays out, there may be rain at the start of the game giving it a brief delay of 30 to 60 minutes.
WRF Model
This is the FASTER solution, pushing the rain east of Baltimore between noon and 1 PM. If this plays out, then there will be no impact of rain on the game.
NAM 3 Km Model
This is the middle-of-the-road player. Let’s look at the full-day animation:
Saturday 6 AM to 10 PM
Snapshot at 1 PM
If the line of rain lingers longer, this shows it coming to an end during that first hour.
2 PM
The rain will move east of Baltimore but is still on Delmarva and up to Philadelphia.
3 PM
The rain should be moving across Delaware.
4 PM
Wind Forecast 8 AM to 8 PM
Snapshot at 1 PM
After the front moves through, the winds will be FROM the Northwest averaging 15 to 20 mph, gusting to 25 mph.
This wind direction does NOT favor right-handed batters but may help lefties.
Temperatures
It is going to be chilly, especially with the wind and as the sun gets lower.
Plan for temps in the lower 60s, but it will feel like the 50s. Dress in layers.
Saturday Night Concert:
Stevie Nicks and Billy Joel begin around 7:30 PM. If you go I hope you stand up and keep moving. It will be chilly.
Sunday Afternoon
ALDS Game 2: 4:07 PM Start
Can you stand it? After watching the Ravens game at 1 PM, Baltimore sports fans will truly be in Birdland with game 2 of the series at Camden Yards.
This will be a dry game, but definitely Fall Baseball. It will be chilly and a good call for hoodies and jackets.

7 Day Forecast
The end of the heat will be gradual today and abrupt tomorrow. The most noticeable feature will be the chilly wind this weekend. It will be noticeable on Saturday afternoon and into Sunday as the colder air works in.
Next week starts chilly then there will be a little bump of warming midweek. Each follow-up warming will be lower and shorter-lived as we go forward.

RESTATING MY MESSAGE ABOUT DYSLEXIA
I am aware there are some spelling and grammar typos and occasional other glitches. I take responsibility for my mistakes and even the computer glitches I may miss. I have made a few public statements over the years, but if you are new here, you may have missed it: I have dyslexia and found out during my second year at Cornell University. It didn’t stop me from getting my meteorology degree and being the first to get the AMS CBM in the Baltimore/Washington region. One of my professors told me that I had made it that far without knowing and to not let it be a crutch going forward. That was Mark Wysocki, and he was absolutely correct! I do miss my mistakes in my own proofreading. The autocorrect spell check on my computer sometimes does an injustice to make it worse. I also can make mistakes in forecasting. No one is perfect at predicting the future. All of the maps and information are accurate. The ‘wordy’ stuff can get sticky. There has been no editor who can check my work when I need it and have it ready to send out in a newsworthy timeline. Barbara Werner is a member of the web team that helps me maintain this site. She has taken it upon herself to edit typos when she is available. That could be AFTER you read this. I accept this and perhaps proves what you read is really from me… It’s part of my charm.
