January 10 More Clouds And Seasonably Cool: Next Storm Brings Rain Thursday
January 10 2023
Tuesday Morning Report
Yawn! This is a boring and uneventful weather pattern. Temperatures for our region will be seasonably cool but just above average. Additional clouds may add to the chill and winter feel, but no winter weather in sight. In fact, I wrote about the warm temperature outlook into next week, but there will be a blip this weekend… Plus still lots of reasons to believe the pattern will flip soon enough. Just not in our short range outlook.
Headlines
- Seasonably Cool
- More clouds
- Thursday and Friday: Warmer with Rain
- Weekend: Cooler and maybe flurries to end.
Morning Temperatures
Where is the cold air? Not much around now as we enter the climatological coldest part of the year.
Surface Weather
The storm pattern continues for the west coast. This latest event has been responsible for at least 14 deaths, mostly from flooding. This will race inland to the Great Lakes. That is the simple story… the track of the storms keeps us on the warmer side.
Over the next few days however, a simple upper air disturbance keeps clouds around.

Looking Ahead:
I gave in to the warmer solution for the next storm. This will track to our west and north, allowing southerly winds to move in. Storm Animation:
ECMWF Model 7 AM THU to 7 PM SAT
The result may start with rain showers Thursday, then steady and heavier rain Friday.
Snapshot Saturday Afternoon
The coastal Low will move off the coast, but the upper level Cold Core Low will pass to our south. Last night the European Model showed a band of snow, and note it is restricted to the mountains. This set up does support flurries.
NOAA Warm Weather Outlook
I posted this report on Monday. This look into next week shows the mild weather returning, but it’s not the full story. It may look like winter is over, but there is still plenty of support (from others) to not give up our guard or FITF.
7 Day Forecast
Rain showers Thursday into Friday morning. Then the colder air will follow (again).
