Wednesday Morning Update
We are now on the upswing! I want to add some perspective to appreciate the next few days. Yesterday brought the first frost to many areas in our region. Baltimore dropped to 38ºF at BWI then bumped up to 72ºF in the afternoon. That was a 34-degree bounce.
Today starts warmer and will end warmer. It is common to have an early chill followed by a big warm-up, only to be followed by an even bigger chill. I expect that last part by Halloween. If you are planning a costume for your kids now, think of something warm!
Some Historic Baltimore October Temperature Swings

2001

- Oct 9 28ºF
Record High

Morning Temperatures
Definitely warmer than what we saw yesterday morning with our frost.
Morning Surface Weather
Often we we get a big warm-up, there is a lot of action in the middle of the country with a storm that is pumping that warm air our way.
The rain track in the Midwest to the Great Lakes will remain for a few days.
The tail end of that system will produce Flooding in Central Texas.
On the other side- a signal of the next push of cold air: A WINTER STORM in the Northern Rockies. Up to 1 FOOT OF SNOW is expected in parts of Montana and North Dakota! FITF – Want to take a road trip???
This has no impact on our weather for now, but that cold air will arrive by Halloween and we may be talking about the first snow around the Great Lakes.
Temperatures This Afternoon
Warmer than yesterday, but there will be more clouds mixed in the sky.

Temperatures
Morning
Afternoon
It is common at this time of year for wide temperature spreads from chilly mornings to mild afternoons.
Looking Ahead:
Storm Forecast Thursday To Sunday
We will be on the dry and warm side through Saturday. The rain is expected to finally break through for us on Sunday.
Close Up Sunday Morning
The projection here shows the leading edge of rain reaching central Maryland… It is possible southern areas remain dry for a little longer. I do not want to lock in on this yet but plan for the expectation of rain to end the weekend and start next week.
Close Up Forecast Sunday Through Halloween
Rain from that slow-moving storm will expand on Monday. This will be followed by a shot of COLD AIR for Halloween.
Jet Stream Thursday
This is our warm pattern… contrast with the cold air next week.
Jet Stream Halloween
This is the surge of colder air next Tuesday. If you have kids planning on heading out to Trick-or-Treat I highly recommend warm costumes.

RESTATING MY MESSAGE ABOUT DYSLEXIA
I am aware there are some spelling and grammar typos and occasional other glitches. I take responsibility for my mistakes and even the computer glitches I may miss. I have made a few public statements over the years, but if you are new here, you may have missed it: I have dyslexia and found out during my second year at Cornell University. It didn’t stop me from getting my meteorology degree and being the first to get the AMS CBM in the Baltimore/Washington region. One of my professors told me that I had made it that far without knowing and to not let it be a crutch going forward. That was Mark Wysocki, and he was absolutely correct! I do miss my mistakes in my own proofreading. The autocorrect spell check on my computer sometimes does an injustice to make it worse. I also can make mistakes in forecasting. No one is perfect at predicting the future. All of the maps and information are accurate. The ‘wordy’ stuff can get sticky. There has been no editor who can check my work when I need it and have it ready to send out in a newsworthy timeline. Barbara Werner is a member of the web team that helps me maintain this site. She has taken it upon herself to edit typos when she is available. That could be AFTER you read this. I accept this and perhaps proves what you read is really from me… It’s part of my charm.
