October 21 Windy And Colder Weekend Plus Fall Foliage Maps And Big Warm Up Next Week
October 21, 2023
Saturday Morning Update
The storm we have been discussing all week brought us a few hours of rain yesterday into last night. This followed the trend to speed up, so while a few spotty showers are left over, the bulk of it has moved to our east.
Colder winds will flow for us as the storm continues to drop rain on New England.
The unsettled air may redevelop spotty rain showers this afternoon and evening…
The good news is that as fall foliage approaches peak color in central Maryland and Pennsylvania, temperatures will be warming up during next week.
Morning Temperatures
Mild start, but the colder winds are just starting to build in… So not much movement on the thermometers today.

Storm Forecast Saturday Morning to Sunday Night
As the storm cranks up in New England it will be respected for our winds. They are now expected to settle down on Sunday evening… followed by a calm and cold night. After Monday morning, the winds will shift and warm up us BIG TIME next week.

A steady flow from the Northwest will average 15 to 25 mph. Gusts will be higher.
Snapshot at 2 PM

It will be cooler with 50s inland. A true Fall October day.

After this burst of colder air, a ridge of warmer air will take over next week.

As the leaves in central Maryland and Pennsylvania reach their peak color, temps will push into the upper 70s… I would not be surprised to see a few areas hit 80ºF.

RESTATING MY MESSAGE ABOUT DYSLEXIA
I am aware there are some spelling and grammar typos and occasional other glitches. I take responsibility for my mistakes and even the computer glitches I may miss. I have made a few public statements over the years, but if you are new here, you may have missed it: I have dyslexia and found out during my second year at Cornell University. It didn’t stop me from getting my meteorology degree and being the first to get the AMS CBM in the Baltimore/Washington region. One of my professors told me that I had made it that far without knowing and to not let it be a crutch going forward. That was Mark Wysocki, and he was absolutely correct! I do miss my mistakes in my own proofreading. The autocorrect spell check on my computer sometimes does an injustice to make it worse. I also can make mistakes in forecasting. No one is perfect at predicting the future. All of the maps and information are accurate. The ‘wordy’ stuff can get sticky. There has been no editor who can check my work when I need it and have it ready to send out in a newsworthy timeline. Barbara Werner is a member of the web team that helps me maintain this site. She has taken it upon herself to edit typos when she is available. That could be AFTER you read this. I accept this and perhaps proves what you read is really from me… It’s part of my charm.
