September 27 Ghost of Ophelia Shifts Allowing Some Peaks Of Sun Before More Rain
September 27, 2023
Wednesday Morning Update
For many in the Mid-Atlantic, we have not seen the sun for 5 days. Today may be the chance to get some peaks of it. While the Ghost of Ophelia remains off the coast and continues to keep moisture in place, there is some dry air that will try to move in from New England.
We will have one more push of rain on Thursday and Friday. Then payback with dry air this weekend and a warming trend into next week… Just as October begins.
Morning Surface Weather
The remnant Low (ghost) of Ophelia is still located off the East Coast. While that easterly wind remains in place, there is dry air trying to move in from New England.
There is optimism that some clearing will reach at least northern and central areas today.
That east wind will still bring higher tides to the Western Shore of the Chesapeake Bay.

Thursday
With the system off the coast, we are likely to get low clouds and fog back across the Bay and Delmarva. Inland may have more clearing allowing temps to drop cooler.. then cloud up again.

Surface Simulation
The light rain from the ghost of Ophelia is off the coast. It will fade and shift east allowing dry weather to build in this weekend.
Jet Stream
Snapshot Sunday
A ridge of High Pressure will be allowed to expand EAST. This is thanks both to the ghost of Ophelia fading away AND a new storm in California giving the jet stream a bump.

7 Day Forecast
The ghost of Ophelia should finally move out this weekend. That will allow the warmer air mass to spread east and give us sun over the weekend. Next week will be October but we could have a few days back in the 80s.

RESTATING MY MESSAGE ABOUT DYSLEXIA
I am aware there are some spelling and grammar typos and occasional other glitches. I take responsibility for my mistakes and even the computer glitches I may miss. I have made a few public statements over the years, but if you are new here, you may have missed it: I have dyslexia and found out during my second year at Cornell University. It didn’t stop me from getting my meteorology degree and being the first to get the AMS CBM in the Baltimore/Washington region. One of my professors told me that I had made it that far without knowing and to not let it be a crutch going forward. That was Mark Wysocki, and he was absolutely correct! I do miss my mistakes in my own proofreading. The autocorrect spell check on my computer sometimes does an injustice to make it worse. I also can make mistakes in forecasting. No one is perfect at predicting the future. All of the maps and information are accurate. The ‘wordy’ stuff can get sticky. There has been no editor who can check my work when I need it and have it ready to send out in a newsworthy timeline. Barbara Werner is a member of the web team that helps me maintain this site. She has taken it upon herself to edit typos when she is available. That could be AFTER you read this. I accept this and perhaps proves what you read is really from me… It’s part of my charm.
