April 1 Weather Brings A Few Rainy Days To Start The Month
Monday April 1
Morning Report
No Fooling! This morning began with a line of thunderstorms moving north through central Maryland. The rumbles of thunder did wake many up early. At this point, it looks like the afternoon will end up dry, leading up to the Orioles game later. They should play on time.
Our weather pattern is part of a stationary front that will wobble across the region for a few days.
Early Doppler Radar Snapshot at 5:30 AM
Notice the heavy rain in “Orange” and lightning strikes from Germantown to Anne Arundel County and the Eastern Shore north of Easton.

Note:
This morning, the rain is shifting north, with the line of rain that should end by this afternoon. Then more impulses will bring more rain and maybe some thunder on Tuesday and Wednesday. By Thursday, the chilly air settles in with leftover showers and snow in the mountains.
SOGGY WEEK AHEAD
The updated rainfall expectation has shifted a large band of 2 to 3+ inches across the northern half of Maryland into Central Pennsylvania. I anticipate there will be flood potential alerts issued over the next couple of days where the heaviest rain will fall.
Headlines
- Monday: Morning Rain; Dry Afternoon
- Tuesday and Wednesday: Rainy with thunderstorms possible
- Thursday: Chilly showers; Mountain Snow
- Weekend: Sunny… watching for the eclipse weather next Monday
Morning Surface Weather
The line of rain is on the north side of the stationary frontal boundary. This is shifting north but will remain across the region and wobble 100 miles are so in either direction as impulses send more rain for a few days.
Radar Simulation 6 AM to 2 PM
The morning showers should fade as it moves north by mid-day or this afternoon.

Storm Potential
Severe Weather may include large hail and tornados in Kentucky and Tennessee. While our region is in the ‘Marginal’ risk, I believe there is a chance for remnant thunder and lightning that may roll our way with less energy.

RESTATING MY MESSAGE ABOUT DYSLEXIA
I am aware there are some spelling and grammar typos and occasional other glitches. I take responsibility for my mistakes and even the computer glitches I may miss. I have made a few public statements over the years, but if you are new here, you may have missed it: I have dyslexia and found out during my second year at Cornell University. It didn’t stop me from getting my meteorology degree and being the first to get the AMS CBM in the Baltimore/Washington region.
One of my professors told me that I had made it that far without knowing and to not let it be a crutch going forward. That was Mark Wysocki, and he was absolutely correct! I do miss my mistakes in my own proofreading. The autocorrect spell check on my computer sometimes does an injustice to make it worse. I also can make mistakes in forecasting. No one is perfect at predicting the future. All of the maps and information are accurate. The ‘wordy’ stuff can get sticky.
There has been no editor who can check my work while writing and to have it ready to send out in a newsworthy timeline. Barbara Werner is a member of the web team that helps me maintain this site. She has taken it upon herself to edit typos when she is available. That could be AFTER you read this. I accept this and perhaps proves what you read is really from me… It’s part of my charm. #FITF
