June 15 Pleasant Today More Rain And Storms Tomorrow
June 15, 2023
Thursday Morning Update
I hesitate as I write this, but we have another beautiful weather day in store. My caution is with full acknowledgment that we are in a growing drought which is contrasted with unusually comfortable temperatures and humidity as we continue through the longest days of the year.
The good news is that we have more rain on the way tomorrow AND many more days next week that look wet. What we need are a few days with steady rain so if and when you see it in the forecast, it is worth welcoming whenever it comes.
At this point, Father’s Day Weekend will be dry and the warmest part of our week ahead.
Morning Temperatures
At 6 AM, the coolest time of the day, these numbers have been common this year, but rare for a typical mid-June.
Many 40s across western Maryland, and even some local spots. Most of central Maryland and southern Pennsylvania started in the 50s, with 60s around the Southern Chesapeake Bay due to the influence of the water.
Morning Surface Weather
Another pleasant morning. The next weather system will be developing across The Great Lakes and head our way tomorrow.
Temperatures at 4 PM
With low humidity and sunshine, temperatures will get up close to average in the mid-80s for metro areas, and near 80ºF in the northern suburbs. Cooler 70s still holding in the mountains.

Friday Weather
Radar Simulation 8 AM to 10 PM
There will be showers, perhaps more widespread in the morning than shown here.
My attention is on thunderstorms in the afternoon that may turn strong to severe. Lightning is a high probability, so if you have outdoor plans you should consider this chance.

I made this to highlight the developing line of storms from late afternoon to evening as this crosses the Bay to Delmarva. It may affect travelers to the beaches for the weekend.
Temperatures
Morning Temperatures
Still cool but not as chilly as more clouds will build in and some early showers.
Afternoon Temperatures
The high in metro areas will depend on the timing of the rain showers. Once they arrive, temps will cool back to the 70s.

Friday Snapshot
This is a similar setup to the prior two events.
Animation: Friday morning to Tuesday
The pattern will give us a dry and warm weekend, then rain next week. The next event seems to be pushed back another day… So our chance for showers on Monday will be very slim and to the south.
Tuesday and Wednesday appear to be our best chance to get in on it.

7 Day Forecast
After a warm Father’s Day Weekend, we will get into a more rain favorable pattern next week. This is likely to build in Tuesday and Wednesday along with cooler temperatures.

RESTATING MY MESSAGE ABOUT DYSLEXIA
I am aware there are some spelling and grammar typos, and occasional other glitches. I take responsibility for my mistakes, and even the computer glitches I may miss. I have made a few public statements over the years, but if you are new here you may have missed it: I have dyslexia, and found out during my second year at Cornell University. It didn’t stop me from getting my meteorology degree, and being first to get the AMS CBM in the Baltimore/Washington region. One of my professors told me that I had made it that far without knowing, and to not let it be a crutch going forward. That was Mark Wysocki and he was absolutely correct! I do miss my mistakes in my own proofreading. The autocorrect spell check on my computer sometimes does an injustice to make it worse. I also can make mistakes in forecasting. No one is perfect predicting the future. All of the maps and information are accurate. The ‘wordy’ stuff can get sticky. There has been no editor that can check my work when I needed it and have it ready to send out in a newsworthy timeline. Barbara Werner is a member of the web team that helps me maintain this site. She has taken it upon herself to edit typos, when she is able. That could be AFTER you read this. I accept this and perhaps proves what you read is really from me… It’s part of my charm.
