All model nowcast and forecast information is based on a hydrodynamic model and should be considered as computer-generated nowcast and forecast guidance.
Wind Forecast Guidance
The surface wind animation depicts predicted hourly surface (33 ft [10m] above the water) winds
for the next 48 hours based on weather model forecast guidance from the NOAA/NWS North American Mesoscale
(NAM) Model or the Global Forecast System (GFS), if guidance from the NAM Model is not available. The hourly
wind fields are created by spatially and temporally interpolating the NWS wind forecast guidance onto the
CBOFS model grid. The original spatial and temporal resolutions of the NAM Model wind forecast guidance
are 7.5 miles (12 km) and 3 hours, respectively. These interpolated wind fields are used by CBOFS's forecast
cycle to generate oceanographic forecast guidance. The original wind products can be seen at the
NWS/National Centers for Environmental Prediction
web page.
