Friday Morning
The weather headlines stretch over two days. This morning there is a Frost Advisory on Delmarva with low temps in the 30s in places where the growing season has begun. The more widespread concern will be the very strong winds on Saturday. Currently there is a High Wind Watch in the mountains, but forecast plots suggest this may get expanded closer to the metro areas
Note: With the potential to have wind gusts in the 50 to 60+ mph range, there may be downed trees and power outages.
The strong storm responsible for the wind event on the way is located in the Northern Plains. The first impact we will get will be a building breeze with warmer temps today, followed by scattered showers this evening and tonight.
The core of the storm will remain to our north, however we will get some showers on Saturday and then a strong storm/squall line into the evening. That will be when the strongest winds and return of cooler air will arrive.
The breeze will be building from the Southwest, helping to push in the warm air.
Warmer air will be pushing in today and last overnight.

The rain will be steady in the mountains, but break up to showers for the rest of the region.

This will be a day with strong winds and surging temps. There will be rain showers, but also many dry hours in between.
The main concern will be in the evening. That is when a squall line will arrive.
8 AM to 10 PM
This is the time frame when the strongest winds are expected.
Note that top gusts may occur for only a few seconds, compared to a 1 minute average for ‘wind’.
We need to watch this squall line closely. It may include thunder, lightning, and damaging winds.
Behind it snow showers will return to the high mountains.
Scattered showers will be highlighted with the squall line in the evening. This will carry the strongest winds.
Once this storm passes, we will get one brief cool day, then most of next week will be very warm.
Right now the Orioles Home Opener appears warm with a chance for showers. This is not a promise and will be refined as we get closer.

I have dyslexia, and found out during my second year at Cornell University. It didn’t stop me from getting my meteorology degree, and being first to get the AMS CBM in the Baltimore/Washington region. One of my professors told me that I had made it that far without knowing, and to not let it be a crutch going forward. That was Mark Wysocki and he was absolutely correct!
I do miss my mistakes in my own proofreading. The autocorrect spell check on my computer sometimes does an injustice to make it worse. I also can make mistakes in forecasting. No one is perfect predicting the future.
All of the maps and information are accurate. The ‘wordy’ stuff can get sticky.
There has been no editor that can check my work when I needed it and have it ready to send out in a newsworthy timeline. Barbara Werner is a member of the web team that helps me maintain this site. She has taken it upon herself to edit typos, when she is able. That could be AFTER you read this.
