I looked out the window this morning and saw what appears to be the classic summer haze back in the sky. However our temperatures and dew points tell a much cooler and more comfortable story. If feels better than it looks.
The reason for the haze in our sky has been the from wildfires more than a thousand miles away, in central and western Canada. The western US has its share of fire problems, but our obstruction is coming from as far away as Alberta, Canada.
This smoke is high altitude. However it is possible for the particulates to settle lower and lower our air quality. Under certain conditions, it may be possible to smell the smoke, which has happened on occasion with Canadian wildfires in the past. You can track the air quality forecast maps below as well.

Surface Weather
The source of our air is has been from Canada thanks to High Pressure in the Great Lakes.
If you are in Southern Maryland, this is also mixing with clouds behind the old frontal boundary. The combination is further dimming the sun, and may make for an added bleakness to the sky.

True Color imagery here shows the smokey haze. If you look closely you will see the brownish transparent tinge being spread southward.

The smoke is much denser in northern PA and central New York.

The concentration of smoke is more noticeable near and north of Baltimore into Pennsylvania, but also out to the beaches from Rehoboth northward.

Sunshine State Of Mind
I am done with the cold and snow (for the season). I am embracing my wife’s mantra of Sunshine State of Mind.
