Sunday Morning Report

We have turned the corner and are now fully in a quiet weather pattern with a warm-up. Yesterday did produce those afternoon clouds. Today, we should remain sunny with light winds. Temperatures are expected to be right on target with ‘average’ for this date, and it should feel great!

As we build a warming trend this week, I need to draw back on something I have seen just about every year: We often end up warmer than initially suggested. In the 7-day forecast, I included the actual numbers plotted for Central Maryland each day. However, I see that at least two, perhaps three days have the potential to hit 60F.

This is False Spring! Colder air will arrive as soon as next weekend. I still do not see any Polar Air in sight. A trend with an active pattern into the most fickle month of the year is a recipe for ‘anything can happen’!

I have told my clients that I do not see snow in our forecast for the next 10 days.  That is as far as I will go, and I will NOT show you pipe dream model maps with a snowstorm beyond that. Just don’t be too surprised if something pops up.  The thing about March for our region is that any impact from snow becomes limited to stronger events and timing around the dark hours for a better chance to stick. The sun angle is getting too high in the sky now, and the ground retains that heat.

Morning Surface Weather

High Pressure is protecting us with clear and quiet weather. The snow remains active across the Great Lakes to Northern New England.

A southern storm has rain between Houston and New Orleans, with a thin band of snow between Paris, Texas, and Southern Arkansas. This storm will stay south.

The main event will be a Warming Trend in the middle of the nation, and that will spread our way.

Storm Forecast: Wednesday Afternoon to Friday Afternoon

The biggest weather event for us this week looks like a strong cold front. At this time it looks like rain later in the day on Thursday, ending Friday morning. This will be followed by cooler winds and another round of snow for the high mountains.

Jet Stream Forecast: March 1 to 9

There will be more cold air on the move. A very active pattern and often at the end of winter, we can get wide swings in temperatures… which can result in strong storms.  Just anticipate there is more active weather even though we do not see it in the next week.

7 Day Forecast

I am seeing a few days that may hit 60F.

The best chance for rain will be Thursday/evening.

I do see cooler air, but any signal of possible snow is beyond the 10-day period.

RESTATING MY MESSAGE ABOUT DYSLEXIA

I am aware there are some spelling and grammar typos and occasional other glitches. I take responsibility for my mistakes and even the computer glitches I may miss. I have made a few public statements over the years, but if you are new here, you may have missed it: I have dyslexia and found out during my second year at Cornell University. It didn’t stop me from getting my meteorology degree and being the first to get the AMS CBM in the Baltimore/Washington region. One of my professors told me that I had made it that far without knowing and to not let it be a crutch going forward. That was Mark Wysocki, and he was absolutely correct! I do miss my mistakes in my own proofreading. The autocorrect spell check on my computer sometimes does an injustice to make it worse. I also can make mistakes in forecasting. No one is perfect at predicting the future. All of the maps and information are accurate. The ‘wordy’ stuff can get sticky.  There has been no editor who can check my work while writing and to have it ready to send out in a newsworthy timeline. Barbara Werner is a member of the web team that helps me maintain this site. She has taken it upon herself to edit typos when she is available. That could be AFTER you read this. I accept this and perhaps proves what you read is really from me… It’s part of my charm. #FITF
