Snow Analysis From Friday November 22 Storm

Maryland Weather
Winter Weather

Snow Summary As Of Saturday, November 23, 2024

The early winter storm that hit the Mid-Atlantic yesterday, Friday, November 22, lived up to expectations. While many doubted we would get snow after days in the 60s, the atmosphere won, and the snow performed as expected.

This upper-level Low dug deep, absorbing two areas of Low Pressure, which helped it develop its own cold air. This report will highlight the snow reported across the region. I will repost my road profile snow maps with the snow reports for you to compare how it worked out.

Snow Analysis

The net result was heavy snowfall in the higher mountains of West Virginia and Western Pennsylvania, with 12 inches verified in the forecast. The big winner was the Poconos of Northeast Pennsylvania, where up to 16 to 20 inches of snow fell in and around Scranton.

Western Maryland and Nearby Mountains

Garrett County snow reports ranged from 10” in Oakland to 12” in McHenry to the winner of 14.5” in Grantsville.

Just east over the ridge, Frostburg only reported 3 inches.

Saturday Morning View From McHenry, MD

The snow had changed to rain, and it had melted and compressed to 6 to 8 inches of depth (where it was not blown away).

This was a good start to the season. With a cold outlook over the next 14 days, we may get more.

RESTATING MY MESSAGE ABOUT DYSLEXIA

I am aware there are some spelling and grammar typos and occasional other glitches. I take responsibility for my mistakes and even the computer glitches I may miss. I have made a few public statements over the years, but if you are new here, you may have missed it: I have dyslexia and found out during my second year at Cornell University. It didn’t stop me from getting my meteorology degree and being the first to get the AMS CBM in the Baltimore/Washington region.

One of my professors told me that I had made it that far without knowing and to not let it be a crutch going forward. That was Mark Wysocki, and he was absolutely correct! I do miss my mistakes in my own proofreading. The autocorrect spell check on my computer sometimes does an injustice to make it worse. I also can make mistakes in forecasting. No one is perfect at predicting the future. All of the maps and information are accurate. The ‘wordy’ stuff can get sticky.

There has been no editor who can check my work while writing and to have it ready to send out in a newsworthy timeline. Barbara Werner is a member of the web team that helps me maintain this site. She has taken it upon herself to edit typos when she is available. That could be AFTER you read this. I accept this and perhaps proves what you read is really from me… It’s part of my charm. #FITF
