October 17, 2024
Thursday Morning Report
The core of the cold air is moving through and off the coast today. We have a widespread frost to start the day, but there are plenty of sunny days ahead, and a warm-up is on the way. This weekend will get us back to the 70s.

Frost Advisory In Place
Morning Temperatures
Morning Surface Weather
A large air mass is dominating the Eastern US, pushing chilly air into the Deep South and helping to form a storm off the coast. This storm will continue to move away as we get into a dry weather pattern and warm up over the next seven days.
Morning Temperatures: Eastern US
The chilly temps have dropped into the 40s in the Panhandle of Florida!
Afternoon Temperatures
Not as cool with temps approaching 60ºF.
Winds at 4 PM
Gusts up to 20 mph will keep the chill in the air.

FRIDAY OCTOBER 18

Afternoon High
LET’S BACK UP TO LOOK AHEAD
Thursday Afternoon Surface Weather
A storm is developing off the Mid-Atlantic coast and moving out to sea.
Thursday Afternoon Jet Stream
The core of the cold air is creating extra spin as it exits off the coast and interacts with an old frontal boundary.
Looking Ahead: Jet Stream: Thursday to Sunday
A flip in the jet stream will allow the surge of warmer air to take over the Eastern US.
Sunday
Tropical Outlook
Over the next seven days, the chance of something developing in the open Atlantic has dropped to 30%. The region in the western Caribbean is down to 20%. This is not very likely and debunks the exaggerated social media scare posts about a ‘Nadine’ that will repeat the last two hurricanes in the US.
7 Day Forecast
The warm-up times out well with the weekend and will last into next week.

RESTATING MY MESSAGE ABOUT DYSLEXIA
I am aware there are some spelling and grammar typos and occasional other glitches. I take responsibility for my mistakes and even the computer glitches I may miss. I have made a few public statements over the years, but if you are new here, you may have missed it: I have dyslexia and found out during my second year at Cornell University. It didn’t stop me from getting my meteorology degree and being the first to get the AMS CBM in the Baltimore/Washington region.
One of my professors told me that I had made it that far without knowing and to not let it be a crutch going forward. That was Mark Wysocki, and he was absolutely correct! I do miss my mistakes in my own proofreading. The autocorrect spell check on my computer sometimes does an injustice to make it worse. I also can make mistakes in forecasting. No one is perfect at predicting the future. All of the maps and information are accurate. The ‘wordy’ stuff can get sticky.
There has been no editor who can check my work while writing and to have it ready to send out in a newsworthy timeline. Barbara Werner is a member of the web team that helps me maintain this site. She has taken it upon herself to edit typos when she is available. That could be AFTER you read this. I accept this and perhaps proves what you read is really from me… It’s part of my charm. #FITF
