October 11 After A Stunning Aurora And Chilly Morning The Weekend Warms Then Colder Next Week

Friday Morning Report
This week has been one for the books. Following Hurricane Milton’s historic landfall, most of the United States was greeted with an epic display of the Northern Lights. The colorful sky began just after sunset, and thankfully, I was wrong, and the half moon did not hinder the viewing.
The electrified upper atmosphere flushed all of the Mid-Atlantic with spectacular colors, reaching down to the Gulf Coast states. I literally have hundreds of messages with photos, and even more are shared on some of my Facebook posts.
I want to highlight a few and embed some of those posts here. I encourage you to scan through for some of the most dramatic and widespread coverage. Thanks to so many…
Unfortunately, it does not look like a repeat tonight (Friday night). There is a smaller chance, but most of the energy has already passed through.
As for the weather, I need to make an effort to do my normal job and report here on that. We have some frost this morning, and more frost or freeze will happen next week. In between, we have a warm weekend ahead. Let’s take a look.

Morning Surface Weather
High Pressure remains in control. The clear sky that allowed us to see the light show last night has also allowed for a deep chill this morning. Some inland areas may have frost.
This afternoon will be sunny, and the weekend will warm through the 70s to near 80ºF.
The next cold snap will arrive from the Northern Plains by early next week.

RESTATING MY MESSAGE ABOUT DYSLEXIA
I am aware there are some spelling and grammar typos and occasional other glitches. I take responsibility for my mistakes and even the computer glitches I may miss. I have made a few public statements over the years, but if you are new here, you may have missed it: I have dyslexia and found out during my second year at Cornell University. It didn’t stop me from getting my meteorology degree and being the first to get the AMS CBM in the Baltimore/Washington region.
One of my professors told me that I had made it that far without knowing and to not let it be a crutch going forward. That was Mark Wysocki, and he was absolutely correct! I do miss my mistakes in my own proofreading. The autocorrect spell check on my computer sometimes does an injustice to make it worse. I also can make mistakes in forecasting. No one is perfect at predicting the future. All of the maps and information are accurate. The ‘wordy’ stuff can get sticky.
There has been no editor who can check my work while writing and to have it ready to send out in a newsworthy timeline. Barbara Werner is a member of the web team that helps me maintain this site. She has taken it upon herself to edit typos when she is available. That could be AFTER you read this. I accept this and perhaps proves what you read is really from me… It’s part of my charm. #FITF
