September 8 Chilly Start To A Cool Day Then Warmer Week Ahead
Sunday September 8, 2024
Morning Report
The cold front that moved through yesterday has led to the coolest air of the season. This may not be the first day in the 40s in our region for some, but it has spread through more of our area. This is leading to a dry week ahead and a warm-up, but as we bottom out on the thermometers, I want to show a round of up temperatures for local areas in the maps below.
Morning Temperatures
Region-Wide
There is a wide range of temps from the 30s (very few areas) to many in the 40s and up to nearly 60ºF by the water.
Central Maryland
Many inland areas in the 40s for the first time since last spring.
Southern Pennsylvania
Widespread 40s not the first time this season. This region was in the 40s two weeks ago.
Eastern Shore/Delmarva
Wide range with inland areas in the 40s, to near 60ºF by the water.
Western Maryland
Cloud cover and the breeze is the reason there were not more places in the 30s.
Morning Surface Weather
High Pressure is spreading across the eastern half of the nation, with the exception of the soggy Gulf Coast.
The winds around the High AND the Upper Level Low in Eastern Canada will push in cool air from the Northwest.
Note: That is snow showing up in Northern Ontario in Canada.
Wind Forecast 8 AM to 8 PM
The air flow with High Pressure building in and the large upper level low in Eastern Canada.
Snapshot at 4 PM
Winds may gust to 20 mph FROM the Northwest.
Temperatures
This will be 5 to 10 degrees below average. It will feel chilly in the shade and warm in the sun.

RESTATING MY MESSAGE ABOUT DYSLEXIA
I am aware there are some spelling and grammar typos and occasional other glitches. I take responsibility for my mistakes and even the computer glitches I may miss. I have made a few public statements over the years, but if you are new here, you may have missed it: I have dyslexia and found out during my second year at Cornell University. It didn’t stop me from getting my meteorology degree and being the first to get the AMS CBM in the Baltimore/Washington region.
One of my professors told me that I had made it that far without knowing and to not let it be a crutch going forward. That was Mark Wysocki, and he was absolutely correct! I do miss my mistakes in my own proofreading. The autocorrect spell check on my computer sometimes does an injustice to make it worse. I also can make mistakes in forecasting. No one is perfect at predicting the future. All of the maps and information are accurate. The ‘wordy’ stuff can get sticky.
There has been no editor who can check my work while writing and to have it ready to send out in a newsworthy timeline. Barbara Werner is a member of the web team that helps me maintain this site. She has taken it upon herself to edit typos when she is available. That could be AFTER you read this. I accept this and perhaps proves what you read is really from me… It’s part of my charm. #FITF
