August 9 Storm Alerts With Remnant Debby Low Bringing Flooding Rain High Winds And Some Tornadoes
Friday, August 9 2024
Morning Report
Debby is no longer a tropical system, but the remnant Low-Pressure Center will be moving through western Maryland. The result of strong spin still in the atmosphere continues to bring bands of heavy rain, gusty winds, and some storm cells that may produce isolated tornadoes. While some local areas received over 2 inches last night alone, and mountain spots had over 8 inches, there will be additional rainfall and flooding today.
TORNADO WATCH EXTENDED TO 2 PM TODAY
My Maryland Trek 11 team has been lucky to miss the worst of the weather, and today, we will be crossing the Eastern Shore. In this region, strong winds may gust over 40 mph. While we are at Kent Narrows, anyone crossing the Bay Bridge may encounter wind restrictions. This is in Phase 2, which may lead to box trucks and larger vehicles getting stopped at times.
We will keep safety in mind for our group.
Tonight, the final push will swing through. This may bring showers and some thunder to the Ravens game, and the last push across Delmarva. Then, a stretch of nice weather will begin Saturday through next week.
Storm Reports
Lots of flooding from rain and high water on the Bay. A lot of wind damage knocked down trees and power lines. Isolated tornadoes.

Morning Surface Weather
The remnant Low or Ghost of Debby is moving up the spine of the Appalachians through Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania this morning.
Strong winds are being pulled in from the South and Southeast.
Radar Simulation 8 AM to Midnight
This product is NOT PERFECT. This is a suggestion of showers with steadier rain farther inland. However, we may see pockets of heavier showers and thunderstorms not shown here. So, watching the live radar is going to be vital for your plans and our Maryland Trek Team.

RESTATING MY MESSAGE ABOUT DYSLEXIA
I am aware there are some spelling and grammar typos and occasional other glitches. I take responsibility for my mistakes and even the computer glitches I may miss. I have made a few public statements over the years, but if you are new here, you may have missed it: I have dyslexia and found out during my second year at Cornell University. It didn’t stop me from getting my meteorology degree and being the first to get the AMS CBM in the Baltimore/Washington region.
One of my professors told me that I had made it that far without knowing and to not let it be a crutch going forward. That was Mark Wysocki, and he was absolutely correct! I do miss my mistakes in my own proofreading. The autocorrect spell check on my computer sometimes does an injustice to make it worse. I also can make mistakes in forecasting. No one is perfect at predicting the future. All of the maps and information are accurate. The ‘wordy’ stuff can get sticky.
There has been no editor who can check my work while writing and to have it ready to send out in a newsworthy timeline. Barbara Werner is a member of the web team that helps me maintain this site. She has taken it upon herself to edit typos when she is available. That could be AFTER you read this. I accept this and perhaps proves what you read is really from me… It’s part of my charm. #FITF
