January 15 Falling Temps This Friday And Light Snow Chances Saturday Shift To The Coast Sunday
Thursday January 15
Winter is Back! It will be hard to deny as temperatures will be falling all day and winds increase through tonight. Gusts have already surpassed 30 mph, and more of that is on the way. So, our focus will be on the wind chill, then some light snow.
Yesterday was 15 degrees above normal, so this may be a shock to the system. What might not be a shock was that the light snow on the back edge of showers overnight did not materialize. I mentioned this on social media before bed, but you may have missed it. That minor event and miss are now behind us. What lies ahead falls in line with this being the historically coldest time of the year. We have at least two weeks ahead with repeated reinforcements of arctic air.
To get you in the mood, here is our live view of Western Maryland at McHenry and Wisp Ski Resort. They had been expecting 2 to 4 inches of fresh snow overnight.

Morning Surface Weather
The cold front that moved through was mostly dry for us, but snow is falling in New England with strong Lake Effect snow behind it.
For us, winds have already gusted 30 to 40 mph, and may be even stronger tonight as COLDER AIR arrives.
The Arctic Air on the move into the Northern Plains will help enhance some light snow chances this weekend.

RESTATING MY MESSAGE ABOUT DYSLEXIA
I am aware there are some spelling and grammar typos and occasional other glitches. I take responsibility for my mistakes and even the computer glitches I may miss. I have made a few public statements over the years, but if you are new here, you may have missed it: I have dyslexia and found out during my second year at Cornell University. It didn’t stop me from getting my meteorology degree and being the first to get the AMS CBM in the Baltimore/Washington region. One of my professors told me that I had made it that far without knowing and to not let it be a crutch going forward. That was Mark Wysocki, and he was absolutely correct! I do miss my mistakes in my own proofreading. The autocorrect spell check on my computer sometimes does an injustice to make it worse. I can also make mistakes in forecasting. No one is perfect at predicting the future. All of the maps and information are accurate. The ‘wordy’ stuff can get sticky. There has been no editor who can check my work while writing and to have it ready to send out in a newsworthy timeline. Barbara Werner is a member of the web team that helps me maintain this site. She has taken it upon herself to edit typos when she is available. That could be AFTER you read this. I accept this and perhaps proves what you read is really from me… It’s part of my charm. #FITF
