January 6 Weather Some Fog And Clouds Followed By The Warm Up With Rain By The Weekend

Forecast

Tuesday, January 6, 2026

The storm track has shifted to the north. We are still on the edge, which is why we have areas of fog, and most of the region will see clouds today.

Sunshine should return tomorrow with the gradual warm-up as temps aim for the lower 60s later in the week, but with the price tag of rain as well.

We could use it to wash away the salt, and we still have a two-year deficit of more than 16 inches. We can expect a total of over 1 inch, so any bit is welcome.

Morning Surface Weather

For Baltimore and the Mid-Atlantic: Cloudy with patchy fog this morning as warmer air begins to move in. A gray start, but temperatures will climb into the upper 40s.

  • Ice and Snow to Our North: A system is producing ice and snow across the upper Midwest from Minnesota through the Great Lakes toward Montreal — tracking well north of us.
  • Warming Up: The warm front is pushing northeast from Texas through the Gulf states. This is driving our January Thaw — milder air will continue to flow into the region.

LOOKING AHEAD

Thursday

A new storm will be generating rain and pumping the warm air ahead of it our way. This will track to the Great Lakes, so we stay on the warmer side.

January 6 weather forecast Thursday storm map

Storm Forecast Thursday  to Sunday

The storm track will be to our North and the trailing cold front will keep the risk of rain for two days. Rainfall totals across the region are likely to be near or slightly over 1 inch.

January 6 weather forecast storm weekend

Friday

Yes, we may reach 60F, but that will come with a band of rain that may last for a couple of days.

January 6 weather forecast Friday storm map

Saturday

More rain and increased wind as the cold front gets closer.

January 6 weather forecast Saturday storm map

Sunday

Colder air spills in with temps sliding back closer to average. Lake Effect snow will return, and we can’t rule out flurries across our northern zones or the mountains.

Jet Stream: Jan 11 to Jan 19

A series of cold fronts will work to reestablish the winter pattern of cold air and perhaps more storminess into the Eastern US.

This is simply a pattern suggestion. I do NOT believe in specific storm plots more than 1 week away.

RESTATING MY MESSAGE ABOUT DYSLEXIA

I am aware there are some spelling and grammar typos and occasional other glitches. I take responsibility for my mistakes and even the computer glitches I may miss. I have made a few public statements over the years, but if you are new here, you may have missed it: I have dyslexia and found out during my second year at Cornell University. It didn’t stop me from getting my meteorology degree and being the first to get the AMS CBM in the Baltimore/Washington region. One of my professors told me that I had made it that far without knowing and to not let it be a crutch going forward. That was Mark Wysocki, and he was absolutely correct! I do miss my mistakes in my own proofreading. The autocorrect spell check on my computer sometimes does an injustice to make it worse. I can also make mistakes in forecasting. No one is perfect at predicting the future. All of the maps and information are accurate. The ‘wordy’ stuff can get sticky.  There has been no editor who can check my work while writing and to have it ready to send out in a newsworthy timeline. Barbara Werner is a member of the web team that helps me maintain this site. She has taken it upon herself to edit typos when she is available. That could be AFTER you read this. I accept this and perhaps proves what you read is really from me… It’s part of my charm. #FITF
