An active weather pattern will increase our clouds today and surge in warmer air briefly with a short window of rain, then colder winds. This time, the focus on the rain will be after dark on Saturday. Sunday may show our warmest temps in the morning, then with strong winds building, we’ll see the drop in temps during the afternoon.
Next week could help produce flurries in the northern suburbs… but in the long run, there is a bigger warm-up leading into Thanksgiving, followed by what may be the first strong hold of winter in early December.
My friend Charlie Bury Jr captured this on Wednesday night in Gettysburg, PA. The event did not put on a local show last night.
The weather map looks quiet, but there is a cluster of clouds that is building our way. This will mark the attempt of warmer air to flow in briefly with the next weather event.
A clipper-type event will pass to our north, but bring in a band of rain after dark Saturday, then end before morning. Strong, cooler winds will arrive on Sunday.

The southern edge of this clipper-type system will bring rain in after dark on Saturday through the evening, breaking up around midnight.
The winds increase from the Northwest to usher in cooler air.
The high temperatures on Sunday may be around daybreak, then fall during the day.
A chilly start to the week, then a ridge will expand to the Eastern US and lead to a warming trend that ‘should’ take us through Thanksgiving.

Around Thanksgiving: Stratospheric Warming Event!
This is based high in the atmosphere over 100,000 Ft where warming is forecast to occur over the Arctic. This will dislodge the Polar Vortex and lead to a surge of cold air our way within 10 to 14 days.
Short Version: While Thanksgiving may be warm for us, winter air is expected to arrive early in December and may lead to our first round of ‘winter storms’.
