September 30 Gale Warning With Imelda Expected To Be Upgraded To A Hurricane Today And Join Humberto
Tuesday, September 30, 2025
The storm duo in the Atlantic is expected to get one adjustment today. Tropical Storm Imelda has 70 mph winds and may become a hurricane this morning, joining her brother. As this happens, it is already making the turn away from the US East Coast.
Hurricane Humberto has winds of 100 mph and is tracking around Bermuda. The track paths cross, but the storms will not merge. However, Imelda may hit the small island.
High Pressure dropping south from Canada is blocking any further progress to the North and protecting us. Light rain has pushed into parts of Maryland, and winds will increase today through tomorrow.
A Gale Warning goes into effect this morning as coastal areas will get winds over 40 mph and waves 10 to 16 feet by tomorrow morning.
A Fall chill will follow with highs in the 60s for a couple of days, then warming this weekend.
This report will focus on the tropical cyclones first, and also the waves off the East Coast. Then, a look at our local weather this week.
SURFACE WEATHER
Clouds from Imelda have reached New England, and light rain has barely scraped Maryland.
The cool and dry air will win from the North.

Hurricane Humberto has 100 mph winds and is running into cooler water, weakening it. Hurricane Force Winds reach 70 miles from the center, and Tropical Storm force winds extend out 205 miles.

RESTATING MY MESSAGE ABOUT DYSLEXIA
I am aware there are some spelling and grammar typos and occasional other glitches. I take responsibility for my mistakes and even the computer glitches I may miss. I have made a few public statements over the years, but if you are new here, you may have missed it: I have dyslexia and found out during my second year at Cornell University. It didn’t stop me from getting my meteorology degree and being the first to get the AMS CBM in the Baltimore/Washington region. One of my professors told me that I had made it that far without knowing and to not let it be a crutch going forward. That was Mark Wysocki, and he was absolutely correct! I do miss my mistakes in my own proofreading. The autocorrect spell check on my computer sometimes does an injustice to make it worse. I can also make mistakes in forecasting. No one is perfect at predicting the future. All of the maps and information are accurate. The ‘wordy’ stuff can get sticky. There has been no editor who can check my work while writing and to have it ready to send out in a newsworthy timeline. Barbara Werner is a member of the web team that helps me maintain this site. She has taken it upon herself to edit typos when she is available. That could be AFTER you read this. I accept this and perhaps proves what you read is really from me… It’s part of my charm. #FITF
