Labor Day Morning Report
Today is the start of a new month and meteorological Fall. The seasons are blocked in groups of three full months. So the summer is in the books for documenting and research reasons, with a surprising summary. It was NOT as hot as we may remember. Yes, there was an oppressive stretch in July, but the season got a late start and an early finish.
Our first day in the 90s was June 12. Our last day in the 90s was two weeks ago, on August 17. We have had a total of 28 days in the 90s, but many more days in August were in the 70s. Here is the brief summary I put online last night.
Not Done Yet
The Fall Equinox is three weeks away, on September 22, and we will warm up. In the short term, we see a little warming this week. The global pattern will likely push late summer heat mid-month, so there will be more 80-degree days, and we can’t rule out another day or two in the 90s.
LOCAL WEATHER TODAY
Morning Low Temperatures
Surface Weather
High Pressure continues to dominate with a cool air mass. The dynamics of this will help focus a light wind from the Northeast today. This will keep temps cooler than average.

In Case You Missed It: Here is my annual comparison of the two most popular Farmers’ Almanacs as they hit the shelves. The theme is colder, but there are subtle differences across our region, including their suggestion for snow.

LOOKING AHEAD
Storm Forecast: Wednesday to Friday
A cluster of showers will develop ahead of the next cold front. This is expected to combine with Low Pressure to slow the next air mass down and keep us under the risk of rain for a few days.

The strongest push of cold air will arrive by the end of next week.
It should be noted that often, an early-season cooldown is met with a late taste of summer to balance things out. We can still have a hot spell in mid- to late September.

- Inland morning lows will be in the 40s

RESTATING MY MESSAGE ABOUT DYSLEXIA
I am aware there are some spelling and grammar typos and occasional other glitches. I take responsibility for my mistakes and even the computer glitches I may miss. I have made a few public statements over the years, but if you are new here, you may have missed it: I have dyslexia and found out during my second year at Cornell University. It didn’t stop me from getting my meteorology degree and being the first to get the AMS CBM in the Baltimore/Washington region. One of my professors told me that I had made it that far without knowing and to not let it be a crutch going forward. That was Mark Wysocki, and he was absolutely correct! I do miss my mistakes in my own proofreading. The autocorrect spell check on my computer sometimes does an injustice to make it worse. I also can make mistakes in forecasting. No one is perfect at predicting the future. All of the maps and information are accurate. The ‘wordy’ stuff can get sticky. There has been no editor who can check my work while writing and to have it ready to send out in a newsworthy timeline. Barbara Werner is a member of the web team that helps me maintain this site. She has taken it upon herself to edit typos when she is available. That could be AFTER you read this. I accept this and perhaps proves what you read is really from me… It’s part of my charm. #FITF
