July 15 After Record Rain Storm Focus Shifts South For The Day Plus Tropical Storm Potential
Tuesday July 15 2025
Morning Report
The storms yesterday once again produced pockets of local flooding. They also produced record rain for Baltimore at BWI Airport. The daily total was 1.95”, including 1 inch of rain during the 15-minute period of 6:30 PM to 6:45 PM! That is a 4-inch per hour rate and truly tropical! This led to local flash flooding and brought yearly rainfall close to ‘normal’.
The top local rain spot was Lancaster County, PA. The town of Columbia, just off the Susquehanna River, measured 6.60”, and Doppler radar estimated over 7 inches just north.
RAIN TOTAL MONDAY
The old front responsible for this is fading over Maryland, and the focus of the storms will be shifted south. The storms will return tomorrow, but we may get a break for now…

Surface Weather
The stationary boundary over Maryland is separating the typical muggy weather overhead and dry air mass to the north from the very humid tropical air to our south.
Further south, a new storm is trying to organize off the coast of Florida. This is expected to track over the state and then into the Gulf!
Tropical Satellite Tuesday Morning
National Hurricane Center Outlook
A 40% chance for tropical development over the next 2 to 7 days.
Tropical Model Forecasts
This may not have much time to form, but will bring additional tropical rainfall back into the Southeast US and maybe up our way over the next week.

RESTATING MY MESSAGE ABOUT DYSLEXIA
I am aware there are some spelling and grammar typos and occasional other glitches. I take responsibility for my mistakes and even the computer glitches I may miss. I have made a few public statements over the years, but if you are new here, you may have missed it: I have dyslexia and found out during my second year at Cornell University. It didn’t stop me from getting my meteorology degree and being the first to get the AMS CBM in the Baltimore/Washington region. One of my professors told me that I had made it that far without knowing and to not let it be a crutch going forward. That was Mark Wysocki, and he was absolutely correct! I do miss my mistakes in my own proofreading. The autocorrect spell check on my computer sometimes does an injustice to make it worse. I also can make mistakes in forecasting. No one is perfect at predicting the future. All of the maps and information are accurate. The ‘wordy’ stuff can get sticky. There has been no editor who can check my work while writing and to have it ready to send out in a newsworthy timeline. Barbara Werner is a member of the web team that helps me maintain this site. She has taken it upon herself to edit typos when she is available. That could be AFTER you read this. I accept this and perhaps proves what you read is really from me… It’s part of my charm. #FITF
