June 27 Weather Cooler Today With Storms Focus West That Will Return With Heat Tomorrow
Friday, June 27, 2025
The high 90s with high humidity and severe storms we had yesterday will take a break today. The eruption of strong and severe storms flared up with a cold front that produced a few impulses of destructive winds and flooding rain. Some spots in South Central Maryland and metro Washington topped 3 inches of rainfall.
Baltimore officially had 0.57” after a high of 97F. Today will be VERY DIFFERENT, but only for one day. See below…
Storm Report From Thursday
TODAY’S Weather
A cool air mass with marine air from the East is in place. Yesterday, it took the record highs in New York and Boston to temps in the 60s. That’s an example of what some of us may feel today.
The focus for severe storms will shift westward, but come back as the heat returns this weekend.
We will have a daily round of thunderstorms that may culminate with more severe weather Monday and Tuesday, then settle in with a dry heat later next week.
Morning Surface Weather
A Back Door Cold Front has pushed through and opened up the winds FROM THE EAST. This will keep temps cooler, ranging from the upper 60s to the lower 70s.
The Heat Dome is still active, but has shifted farther west and south… for today. It will try to return tomorrow.
NOAA Severe Storm Risk
A shift Westward to the mountains for Marginal Risk on the edge of the heat dome and cooler marine air.

Radar Simulation: 2 PM to 10 PM
The focus of slow-moving T’storms will be on the edge of the heat dome. They may get stuck in the mountains as the cooler marine air blocks and protects us.
However, the risk of flooding will be where these storms may crawl or stall.

RESTATING MY MESSAGE ABOUT DYSLEXIA
I am aware there are some spelling and grammar typos and occasional other glitches. I take responsibility for my mistakes and even the computer glitches I may miss. I have made a few public statements over the years, but if you are new here, you may have missed it: I have dyslexia and found out during my second year at Cornell University. It didn’t stop me from getting my meteorology degree and being the first to get the AMS CBM in the Baltimore/Washington region. One of my professors told me that I had made it that far without knowing and to not let it be a crutch going forward. That was Mark Wysocki, and he was absolutely correct! I do miss my mistakes in my own proofreading. The autocorrect spell check on my computer sometimes does an injustice to make it worse. I also can make mistakes in forecasting. No one is perfect at predicting the future. All of the maps and information are accurate. The ‘wordy’ stuff can get sticky. There has been no editor who can check my work while writing and to have it ready to send out in a newsworthy timeline. Barbara Werner is a member of the web team that helps me maintain this site. She has taken it upon herself to edit typos when she is available. That could be AFTER you read this. I accept this and perhaps proves what you read is really from me… It’s part of my charm. #FITF
