Warnings

Tuesday, June 24 2025

Yesterday, Baltimore’s high temperature was 97°F, just missing the record for the date. Today, we have a chance to break two records. The first is the low temperature, and as of 6 AM, BWI had only dropped to 79℉. We need to wait until midnight to confirm, but it looks like this will hold.

The records for both low and high for this date were set in 2010. The low was 76℉ and the high was 100℉. This has a chance to be challenged this afternoon.

Dew points are in the 70s. That is the stickiness we feel and why the heat index this afternoon is expected to reach 110℉, and why we have an Extreme Heat Warning again!

A chance for late-day thundershowers tomorrow, and then more to follow.

The heat wave will break down by Thursday and Friday.

Please Consider:

Children: CHECK THE BACKSEAT OF YOUR CAR! DO NOT LEAVE A CHILD IN THE CAR!

Pets: The pavement will be HOT as well, and paws can burn. Limit outside time for your furry friends to early morning or evening.

TODAY’S Weather

Morning Surface Weather

The Heat Dome is still in place.

The potential relief is showing up as a new cooler air mass across the Northern Plains.

In between, a cold front will be the focus for strong to severe thunderstorms. That is expected to get closer tomorrow and Thursday.

RESTATING MY MESSAGE ABOUT DYSLEXIA

I am aware there are some spelling and grammar typos and occasional other glitches. I take responsibility for my mistakes and even the computer glitches I may miss. I have made a few public statements over the years, but if you are new here, you may have missed it: I have dyslexia and found out during my second year at Cornell University. It didn’t stop me from getting my meteorology degree and being the first to get the AMS CBM in the Baltimore/Washington region. One of my professors told me that I had made it that far without knowing and to not let it be a crutch going forward. That was Mark Wysocki, and he was absolutely correct! I do miss my mistakes in my own proofreading. The autocorrect spell check on my computer sometimes does an injustice to make it worse. I also can make mistakes in forecasting. No one is perfect at predicting the future. All of the maps and information are accurate. The ‘wordy’ stuff can get sticky.  There has been no editor who can check my work while writing and to have it ready to send out in a newsworthy timeline. Barbara Werner is a member of the web team that helps me maintain this site. She has taken it upon herself to edit typos when she is available. That could be AFTER you read this. I accept this and perhaps proves what you read is really from me… It’s part of my charm. #FITF
