June 15 Fathers Day Weather Cooler With Better Air Quality And Still Showers To Track

Forecast

Sunday, June 15 2025

The weather today is unusual for Father’s Day as temperatures may struggle to reach 70°F in many locations. A cooler wind has expanded across the region. The good news is that the smoke from the New Jersey forest fire has dispersed, so we can breathe with greater ease.

The pattern will continue to keep us under the risk of rain showers almost every day. Yesterday, the flooding did verify in Virginia but it was a bust in Maryland. I felt the pressure of many asking about their events.

LAST NIGHT: Saturday Night Radar Snapshot

At 11 PM, I captured this heavy rain cell over southern Carroll County in Maryland. I did this after posting earlier that the storm risk was going to be focused southward, yet this developed, and I know the threat of storms affected many plans.

Thunderstorm forecasting in the summer is imperfect.  Unless we have a larger force at play, I can’t ever suggest canceling an event. Just have a plan for safety if there is lightning or heavy rain.

Morning Surface Weather

The cooler air has expanded as the frontal boundary has slipped to the south, improving the air quality.

There will be another wave of Low Pressure riding along the front, which will ignite more showers later today. It will also help keep that cool and damp Northeasterly wind in place.

RESTATING MY MESSAGE ABOUT DYSLEXIA

I am aware there are some spelling and grammar typos and occasional other glitches. I take responsibility for my mistakes and even the computer glitches I may miss. I have made a few public statements over the years, but if you are new here, you may have missed it: I have dyslexia and found out during my second year at Cornell University. It didn’t stop me from getting my meteorology degree and being the first to get the AMS CBM in the Baltimore/Washington region. One of my professors told me that I had made it that far without knowing and to not let it be a crutch going forward. That was Mark Wysocki, and he was absolutely correct! I do miss my mistakes in my own proofreading. The autocorrect spell check on my computer sometimes does an injustice to make it worse. I also can make mistakes in forecasting. No one is perfect at predicting the future. All of the maps and information are accurate. The ‘wordy’ stuff can get sticky.  There has been no editor who can check my work while writing and to have it ready to send out in a newsworthy timeline. Barbara Werner is a member of the web team that helps me maintain this site. She has taken it upon herself to edit typos when she is available. That could be AFTER you read this. I accept this and perhaps proves what you read is really from me… It’s part of my charm. #FITF
