Forecast

Saturday, May 2,4 2025

Our society treats this holiday weekend as the unofficial start of summer, but the atmosphere has something different in mind. We remain under the influence of an unseasonably cool pattern in the jet stream, and even with some sun, the warm-up will remain below average.

This setup brings us a clear start with a chill in the air. The gusty wind from the Northwest will help build afternoon clouds… especially in the northern hills.

The warm-up Sunday and Monday will aim for the lower 70s, and each day may have more afternoon clouds. The only wrinkle may be an early morning rain shower in Southern Maryland on Monday, but Memorial Day itself does now look good…

Our next storm will race in with more clouds on Tuesday and another round of steady rain by Wednesday.

Morning Surface Weather

The Nor’easter is passing East of Boston this morning. This has kept the chilly wind and rain wrapped around it AND the larger Upper-Level Low located in Western New York State.  There has been a fresh coating of snow in the high mountains of New England!

Locally, a chilly breeze will continue around this storm complex. The air is also unsettled, so we may see more afternoon showers pop up.

A large area of High Pressure in the Midwest will be spreading our way, gradually improving our weather and warming it up a bit this weekend.

RESTATING MY MESSAGE ABOUT DYSLEXIA

I am aware there are some spelling and grammar typos and occasional other glitches. I take responsibility for my mistakes and even the computer glitches I may miss. I have made a few public statements over the years, but if you are new here, you may have missed it: I have dyslexia and found out during my second year at Cornell University. It didn’t stop me from getting my meteorology degree and being the first to get the AMS CBM in the Baltimore/Washington region. One of my professors told me that I had made it that far without knowing and to not let it be a crutch going forward. That was Mark Wysocki, and he was absolutely correct! I do miss my mistakes in my own proofreading. The autocorrect spell check on my computer sometimes does an injustice to make it worse. I also can make mistakes in forecasting. No one is perfect at predicting the future. All of the maps and information are accurate. The ‘wordy’ stuff can get sticky.  There has been no editor who can check my work while writing and to have it ready to send out in a newsworthy timeline. Barbara Werner is a member of the web team that helps me maintain this site. She has taken it upon herself to edit typos when she is available. That could be AFTER you read this. I accept this and perhaps proves what you read is really from me… It’s part of my charm. #FITF
