May 7 Weather Wednesday Clearing Then More Rain And Storms Returns Tomorrow
Wednesday May 7, 2025
We will get a break from the rain today, and some may be saying, ‘What rain?” We have had a few days with heavy rain makers in narrow bands of storm tracks. Overall, this missed Baltimore and is reflected in the growing drought deficit. If you were lucky enough to get rain, your soggy soil will dry slightly with lower humidity today.
The next surge of moisture will build thunderstorms on Thursday and a steady, cool rain on Friday.
This weekend, we are still on track for improvement. Saturday and Sunday ‘should’ end up with more sun and pleasant temperatures.
Radar Clip Tuesday
This loop shows the formation and track of rain over the same focused areas from Baltimore to York.
Rainfall Estimate Yesterday:
Drought Reminder
The heavy rain did not hit everyone. Baltimore only got 0.07” and is still in a deep hole since last year.
Rainfall Deficit at BWI
- Ending 2024 = -8.00”
- Since Jan 1 = -4.35”
- We are DOWN -12.35” including last year

Morning Temperatures
Surface Weather
The old Upper Level Low is located in the St. Lawrence River Valley north of New York. This has pushed the rain trail away and will allow a light wind to bring in lower humidity.
The active storm pattern will hold across the Gulf Coast. This will build our way tomorrow.
Wind Forecast 8 AM to 8 PM
A light wind flow FROM the Northwest will help to lower humidity and clear out the sky.
Afternoon Temperatures
Thursday
Morning Low Temperatures
Afternoon High Temperatures
NOAA Severe Storm Risk
Thunderstorms will build across Virginia into Central Maryland. This is a low level 1 for any severe threat—just heavy downpours.
Radar Simulation 8 AM to Midnight
Showers and Thunderstorms develop in the afternoon, and rain will become more widespread overnight.
LOOKING AHEAD
Storm Pattern Friday Morning to Saturday
Steady rain is likely to expand overnight into Friday morning and last much of the day. This will move away and allow us to clear out Saturday.
Snapshot: Friday Afternoon
This is looking like a wet day as that pocket of cool air and a slow-moving upper-level storm pass through the region.
Jet Stream
The upper-level Low will direct our weather to be cooler and unsettled.
Jet Stream Forecast: Friday to Monday
This cool pocket of air will move away, allowing a ridge to build in and warm us up over the weekend and into next week.
7 Day Forecast
- Today: Clearing
- Tomorrow: Thunderstorms form afternoon through the night
- Friday: Rainy and Cool
- Weekend: Improving!!!

RESTATING MY MESSAGE ABOUT DYSLEXIA
I am aware there are some spelling and grammar typos and occasional other glitches. I take responsibility for my mistakes and even the computer glitches I may miss. I have made a few public statements over the years, but if you are new here, you may have missed it: I have dyslexia and found out during my second year at Cornell University. It didn’t stop me from getting my meteorology degree and being the first to get the AMS CBM in the Baltimore/Washington region. One of my professors told me that I had made it that far without knowing and to not let it be a crutch going forward. That was Mark Wysocki, and he was absolutely correct! I do miss my mistakes in my own proofreading. The autocorrect spell check on my computer sometimes does an injustice to make it worse. I also can make mistakes in forecasting. No one is perfect at predicting the future. All of the maps and information are accurate. The ‘wordy’ stuff can get sticky. There has been no editor who can check my work while writing and to have it ready to send out in a newsworthy timeline. Barbara Werner is a member of the web team that helps me maintain this site. She has taken it upon herself to edit typos when she is available. That could be AFTER you read this. I accept this and perhaps proves what you read is really from me… It’s part of my charm. #FITF
