Saturday Morning Report

Today is the anniversary for the most extreme weather on the calendar for Baltimore separated by just 3 years. In 1942 a record 21.9” snow fell, then in 1945 the record High of 90F was set.

There is a display of winter and near summer weather on the wider weather map and this time we are on the warm side. There will be lots of cloud cover but a wind flow that will help get us into the lower 80s.

Rain showers in the mountains are ahead of a larger storm developing to our west that will result in a Severe Storm Outbreak Sunday and reach us on Monday. That is Orioles Opening Day in Baltimore and likely to be wet. The bulk of the heavy rain and thunderstorms may hold off until late afternoon and evening… but worth watching as it may impact plans.

Surface Weather

A large complex pattern is evolving with a start separation of winter to the north and spring to the south.

Snow and ice are falling across New England, and a new round will develop across the Northern Plains and Great Lakes with a developing storm.

We remain on the warm side in the Mid Atlantic with plenty of clouds flowing ahead of the new storm.

Severe Weather will develop with a peak in activity Sunday across the Mississippi River Valley, then moving across the Appalachians and East Coast on Monday.

Storm Forecast Sunday Morning to Tuesday Morning

A strong storm will move our way and start with showers later on Sunday. The main event will be Monday with rain showers developing.

This is likely to effect the Orioles home opener in Baltimore:

The timing for the steady rain and thunderstorms is still open for refining. As of now, the expectation is for the bulk to arrive later towards evening… but there will be showers during the day.

RESTATING MY MESSAGE ABOUT DYSLEXIA

I am aware there are some spelling and grammar typos and occasional other glitches. I take responsibility for my mistakes and even the computer glitches I may miss. I have made a few public statements over the years, but if you are new here, you may have missed it: I have dyslexia and found out during my second year at Cornell University. It didn’t stop me from getting my meteorology degree and being the first to get the AMS CBM in the Baltimore/Washington region. One of my professors told me that I had made it that far without knowing and to not let it be a crutch going forward. That was Mark Wysocki, and he was absolutely correct! I do miss my mistakes in my own proofreading. The autocorrect spell check on my computer sometimes does an injustice to make it worse. I also can make mistakes in forecasting. No one is perfect at predicting the future. All of the maps and information are accurate. The ‘wordy’ stuff can get sticky.  There has been no editor who can check my work while writing and to have it ready to send out in a newsworthy timeline. Barbara Werner is a member of the web team that helps me maintain this site. She has taken it upon herself to edit typos when she is available. That could be AFTER you read this. I accept this and perhaps proves what you read is really from me… It’s part of my charm. #FITF
