March 8 Windy And Cool Then Turning Warm And Staying Dry: Clocks Forward Sunday Morning
March 8, 2025
Saturday Morning Report
This is a weekend of big change, even as the weather becomes less active. Strong winds will gust today as a new cold front swings through, but the weather will calm as the sun returns with a warm-up into next week.
Daylight Saving Time begins early Sunday morning.
Most smart devices will adjust but remember to change analog clocks 1 hour forward before going to bed.
Also, change the batteries in your smoke detectors.
Baltimore Sunrise/Sunset Times:
Sunrise:
- Saturday = 6:28 AM
- Sunday = 7:27 AM
Sunset
- Saturday = 6:07 PM
- Sunday = 7:08 PM
Next week, we get a big warm-up that should give us a few days into the 70s! Again… remaining dry.
DROUGHT UPDATE
There was a little controversy when I shared the drought map online.. which was made before the rainfall. I chose to share this because the moderate rainfall was NOT enough to end our drought problem. Even if your soil is soggy, the overall region has a LARGE DEFICIT since last year. The water table under the surface and area waterways are running low.
My main concern is for dry brush that may spark more brush fires.
Little to no rain in sight will continue the evaporation of ground moisture. Longer and warmer days will bring more people outside.
Rainfall Deficit at BWI
- Ending 2024 = -8.00”
- Since Jan 1 = -1.93”
- We are DOWN -9.93” including last year

Morning Surface Weather
A cold front produced showers overnight and fresh snow/rain in the high mountains. Residual clouds are around this morning, and winds will gust again. They will be chilly from the Northwest up to 35 mph.
The southern storm will continue to track south and miss us. As I mentioned a few days ago… the GFS Model was wrong, and there will not be an east coast snowstorm today.
We have a warm up on the way and no organized rain in sight for the next week.

RESTATING MY MESSAGE ABOUT DYSLEXIA
I am aware there are some spelling and grammar typos and occasional other glitches. I take responsibility for my mistakes and even the computer glitches I may miss. I have made a few public statements over the years, but if you are new here, you may have missed it: I have dyslexia and found out during my second year at Cornell University. It didn’t stop me from getting my meteorology degree and being the first to get the AMS CBM in the Baltimore/Washington region. One of my professors told me that I had made it that far without knowing and to not let it be a crutch going forward. That was Mark Wysocki, and he was absolutely correct! I do miss my mistakes in my own proofreading. The autocorrect spell check on my computer sometimes does an injustice to make it worse. I also can make mistakes in forecasting. No one is perfect at predicting the future. All of the maps and information are accurate. The ‘wordy’ stuff can get sticky. There has been no editor who can check my work while writing and to have it ready to send out in a newsworthy timeline. Barbara Werner is a member of the web team that helps me maintain this site. She has taken it upon herself to edit typos when she is available. That could be AFTER you read this. I accept this and perhaps proves what you read is really from me… It’s part of my charm. #FITF
