February 20 Winter Weather Advisory For Snow Burst In Maryland And Others Get It As Well
February 20, 2025
Thursday Morning Report
The weather map this morning definitely looks a lot different than what was projected last week. There was still a potential storm that could drop 3 to 6 inches of snow on the Lower Eastern Shore and beaches of Maryland to nearly 12 inches for Southeast Virginia.
It may look like a bust for you, but I see the storm just 200 miles off from 6 days away and the second trailing piece of energy is what will track through today with additional snow.
A burst of snow will reach Central Maryland and northern Virginia mid-morning to this afternoon. This is enough to coat the ground with up to 1/2” inch of snow. I would not be surprised if there are spots near 1”.
Regardless, air and road temps are cold enough to support stickage and road impact for a few hours… after the kids are at school, and most who still drive to work are there.
There will be persistent snow showers into the afternoon, more pronounced in Southern Pennsylvania, but the criteria for an advisory there is higher. I get how this may be misleading.
Winter Weather Advisory By The National Weather Service
These areas are expected a burst of snow for a few hours that may coat the roads.
Southern Pennsylvania will also get snow, but the NWS criteria has a higher threshold for an advisory to be issued there.

This is definitely NOT how the storm was projected last week.. You might see a big miss; I see the surface Low 200 miles off from 6 days. A small error with a big impact.
The second piece of energy is the Upper-Level Low, which will be responsible for the snow burst and additional winds today.

RESTATING MY MESSAGE ABOUT DYSLEXIA
I am aware there are some spelling and grammar typos and occasional other glitches. I take responsibility for my mistakes and even the computer glitches I may miss. I have made a few public statements over the years, but if you are new here, you may have missed it: I have dyslexia and found out during my second year at Cornell University. It didn’t stop me from getting my meteorology degree and being the first to get the AMS CBM in the Baltimore/Washington region. One of my professors told me that I had made it that far without knowing and to not let it be a crutch going forward. That was Mark Wysocki, and he was absolutely correct! I do miss my mistakes in my own proofreading. The autocorrect spell check on my computer sometimes does an injustice to make it worse. I also can make mistakes in forecasting. No one is perfect at predicting the future. All of the maps and information are accurate. The ‘wordy’ stuff can get sticky. There has been no editor who can check my work while writing and to have it ready to send out in a newsworthy timeline. Barbara Werner is a member of the web team that helps me maintain this site. She has taken it upon herself to edit typos when she is available. That could be AFTER you read this. I accept this and perhaps proves what you read is really from me… It’s part of my charm. #FITF
