January 21 Weather Cold Weather Advisory And Rare Gulf Coast Snowstorm Will Clip the Mid Atlantic Coast
January 21 2025
Monday Morning Report
Here we go: With fresh snow on the ground and a few days of the Polar Vortex ‘Influence, the core of the cold air is settling in. Tomorrow will be the bottom on the thermometers, and then we will modify into the weekend.
Cold Weather Advisories account for wind chills below zero, and some snow will clip our coastal areas tonight. This may bring flurries into parts of central Maryland.
This morning starts with a rare snowstorm for Houston to New Orleans and an ice storm is on the way to Tallahassee and Jacksonville in North Florida. More on that below.

Morning Surface Weather
Low Pressure in the Gulf off of Brownsville, TX, has tapped into the cold air and is producing a once-in-a-lifetime storm.
A NOAA Hurricane Hunter flew into the storm to gather more data, and the updated GFS Model reflects it. If accurate, 8 to 12 inches of snow may fall over Southern Louisiana.
This storm will ride up the coast and may clip southern Maryland and the beaches with accumulating snow tonight.
The core of the Polar Air is still in the Northern Plains and will swing our way tomorrow.

This is using the Hurricane Hunter data AND applying the Kuchera Method. Temperatures are forecast to be in the lower Teens, making for a very dry snow.

The city did get 20 inches on Feb 14, 1895.
New Orleans got 8 inches that same day… and this forecast gets them close.
Florida on Wednesday
ICE STORM: Northern Florida and southern Georgia could experience over 1 inch of freezing rain and up to 2 inches of sleet.

RESTATING MY MESSAGE ABOUT DYSLEXIA
I am aware there are some spelling and grammar typos and occasional other glitches. I take responsibility for my mistakes and even the computer glitches I may miss. I have made a few public statements over the years, but if you are new here, you may have missed it: I have dyslexia and found out during my second year at Cornell University. It didn’t stop me from getting my meteorology degree and being the first to get the AMS CBM in the Baltimore/Washington region. One of my professors told me that I had made it that far without knowing and to not let it be a crutch going forward. That was Mark Wysocki, and he was absolutely correct! I do miss my mistakes in my own proofreading. The autocorrect spell check on my computer sometimes does an injustice to make it worse. I also can make mistakes in forecasting. No one is perfect at predicting the future. All of the maps and information are accurate. The ‘wordy’ stuff can get sticky. There has been no editor who can check my work while writing and to have it ready to send out in a newsworthy timeline. Barbara Werner is a member of the web team that helps me maintain this site. She has taken it upon herself to edit typos when she is available. That could be AFTER you read this. I accept this and perhaps proves what you read is really from me… It’s part of my charm. #FITF
